For Homecoming Week, NISD TAFT HS librarian Ms. Fox hosts a hands-on mum-making workshop, supplying students with materials and space to create their own custom homecoming mums.

NISDGarcia 6th graders are learning all about how to identify authoritative sources in the library this week. Today, they learned the CAARP method - check for currency, accuracy, authority, relevance, and purpose in sources. Information literacy is so important for students to have, especially in this new age of AI. Learning how to tell fact from fiction, truth from misinformation, and what sources they can trust help make students better critical thinkers and users of information. Northside ISD

It’s Toddler Time at the Los Reyes Elementary Library today! Kids and parents had fun building, listening to the story of Maria and the Little Llama, moving, and crafting. Kids got lots of gross and fine motor skills practice, along with work on following a sequence and listening. Learning and fun were the highlight of the morning! Many Northside ISD elementary libraries offer toddler times - check with your neighborhood school for more information!

Several schools around Northside ISD celebrated Dolly Day this past Friday (9/25), and Fields ES did so by honoring her legacy of reading! Every single student at Fields was given a free book to keep by Principal, Ms. Perez and Associate Principal, Ms. Benitez. Way to support literacy and reading with style, Fields ES!

Tom C. Clark High School seniors got to attend a Voter Registration Rally organized by librarian, Ms. Podmore! Members of the school’s Model UN presented on subjects such as why voting is important, how to register, and what’s coming up on the November ballot. A representative from Youth Do Vote talked about the different people who work the polls, and how students can get involved. Then, students who will be 18 on or before 11/25 had the chance to register to vote right here in the auditorium. Engaging students in their community and their civic duty to participate in the political process is so important! Kudos to Clark for providing students with this opportunity! Northside ISD

NISD O'Connor High School students had the option to sign up to see Michael Fischer from Trinity University discuss his book “Books Can Save Democracy” in the library during Flex Time today. The talk focused on how reading literature can help people have more constructive and meaningful discussions, and how reading can broaden horizons and teach us more about the world. O’Connor Book Club Presiden, Gwen, moderated the discussion. A great opportunity for learning in the library, and a wonderful way to cap off Constitution Week!
