Fire Activity Rising: Three New Wildfires Sparked Yesterday

Lost Creek Fire #1
Start: Reported at 1708 5:08 p.m. on August 11, 2026
Location: About a half mile South of Poopout Hill, approximately 2.5 to 3 miles Southeast of the Barton Flats Campground, in the wilderness area near the Poopout Trail
Size: 1/10th of an Acre
Containment: 100%
Cause: Lightning
Situation: A small wildfire started low on the mountain in an area that was easy for crews to reach. Ground firefighters moved in quickly and, with support from helicopters, were able to stop the fire’s forward progress early. The fire was burning in standing dead trees (snags), but crews were able to build a secure containment line around it. Additional personnel remain on scene today, working to fully extinguish hot spots and ensure the area is safe

Lost Creek Fire #2
Start: Reported at 5:08 p.m. on August 11, 2026
Location: Higher up the mountain directly North of Lost Creek Fire #1
Size: Unknown
Containment: 0%
Cause: Lightning
Situation: A second fire start was reported at the same time as the Lost Creek #1 Fire. This fire is located much higher up the mountain in very steep, remote terrain that ground crews cannot safely reach. Because of the challenging location, two smoke jumpers were flown in and parachuted to the area. They are now making their way toward the fire to assess conditions and determine the safest and most effective way to begin suppression efforts

North Fire
Location: Lytle Creek Road & Bonita Falls are just North of the Front Country Ranger District Office
Start: Reported at 8:50 p.m. on August 11, 2026
Size: ~3 Acres
Containment: 50%
Cause: Under Investigation
Crews: 4 Engines, 1 Water Tender, 2 Crews
Situation: This fire is being managed jointly by the Forest Service and San Bernardino County Fire – San Bernardino Unit. Containment is holding at 50%, and crews will continue working through the night to strengthen control lines and secure the area.
Closures: Lytle Creek Road was temporarily closed for five hours last night but has since reopened. We ask the public to use extreme caution when traveling through the area, as fire crews and equipment remain positioned along the roadside

Unified Command on the Green Fire: Working Together

Wildfires often require multiple agencies to work together toward a common goal. On the Green Fire, Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service are working together under Unified Command, combining resources, expertise, and personnel to manage the incident.

Unified Command allows agencies with different jurisdictions and responsibilities to coordinate their efforts while maintaining their individual authorities. From morning briefings and operational planning to crews working directly on the fireline, communication and coordination are essential.

The Green Fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain that presents significant challenges for firefighters. Crews from both agencies have been working throughout the incident to construct and strengthen containment lines, monitor the fire, and protect the surrounding community.

Wildfire response is a team effort, and Unified Command brings together the people and resources needed to safely and effectively manage an incident.

Green Fire - Morning Update 7/31/26
The Green Fire remains at 55 acres and 50% containment. Firefighters worked through the night to ensure the fire remained within its established perimeter. Crews will continue strengthening containment lines today in challenging terrain. Drone technology with thermal imaging capabilities will also be utilized during the day to detect heat signatures and pinpoint remaining hotspots, providing firefighters with valuable information to guide suppression efforts. Evacuation warnings for Mountain Home Village were lifted at 7:00 a.m. this morning. Highway 38 remains open, and motorists are reminded to slow down and use extra caution as firefighters continue working in the area.

If you plan to visit Bonita Falls, please stay alert, avoid standing directly beneath cliff faces, and keep a safe distance from unstable slopes.
