💙 Big feelings are a big part of growing up.

In this episode of First 5 San Bernardino in the Neighborhood, First 5’s Ernest Marquez visited the City of Colton’s Week of the Young Child event in the and chatted with Liz and her daughter, Emma, to talk about emotions. Helping little ones understand and express their feelings is an important part of building lifelong social-emotional skills. What better time to talk about it than during Mental Health Awareness Month?!

☀️ It’s National Sunscreen Day! Little ones love the sunshine, so let’s keep them protected while they play.

Building simple habits like applying sunscreen helps shield their skin from harmful UV rays and keeps outdoor fun safe all day long.

✨ Pro tip: Use the “two-finger rule” – squeeze sunscreen along your index and middle finger for the right amount, apply 15 minutes before heading outside, and reapply every 2 hours or after water play and sweating.

☀️ Summer is coming in HOT!

In San Bernardino County, temperatures can rise quickly during the summer months, making it especially important to protect young children from heat and sun exposure. Their bodies warm up faster than adults, so simple steps like applying sunscreen, staying hydrated, taking shade breaks and using sun protection can help keep outdoor play safe and enjoyable.

Pro tip: Stay in the shade whenever possible and limit direct sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to help protect little ones.

¡El verano llega ARDIENDO! ☀️🔥
