San Mateo County Transportation Authority The SMCTA’s role is to administer the proceeds from Measure A to fund a broad spectrum of transportation-related projects and programs.

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority was formed in 1988 with the passage of the voter-approved half-cent sales tax for countywide transportation projects and programs, known as Measure A. The original Measure A expired Dec. 31, 2008. In 2004, county voters overwhelmingly approved a reauthorization of Measure A through 2033. At its June meeting, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA) Board of Directors approved $366.18 million in transportation sales tax funding to improve rail safety and mobility. The funding will advance the Broadway Grade Separation Project in Burlingame and enhance safety at crossings along the Caltrain corridor within the county.

Thank you Congressman Kevin Mullin for securing $3 million in federal funding for the Broadway Grade Separation Project! 🎉 SMCTA Chair Julia Mates and Executive Director April Chan joined today’s event to recognize support for this critical project, the top priority in SMCTA’s Measure A and Measure W Grade Separation Program, funded by local San Mateo County sales tax dollars. We look forward to continuing to partner with Caltrain and the city of Burlingame to improve public safety and mobility.
