Bonds vs. Parcel Taxes: What’s the difference?

Both provide important local funding for San Carlos schools—but they support very different things.

BONDS = BUILDINGS
Bond funding, such as Measure H, supports long-term improvements to school facilities, including classrooms, roofs, windows, HVAC systems and modernization projects.

PARCEL TAXES = PEOPLE + PROGRAMS
Parcel tax funding supports ongoing educational programs and services, including teachers and academic programs that directly support students.

As we look ahead to the upcoming parcel tax renewal, we want our community to understand how local school funding works—and why these two funding sources are not interchangeable.

🎥 Watch our short video, “The Impact of Local Funding,” to learn more.

Bonds help provide the places where students learn. Parcel taxes help support the people and programs that bring those spaces to life.

A Look Back, A Look Ahead: Five Years with Dr. Jennifer Frentress

Dr. Frentress is celebrating five years of leadership in the San Carlos School District! In the latest issue of San Carlos Living Magazine, she reflects on the District’s journey over the past five years, the people and partnerships that make our schools special, and what she’s excited about as we look to the future.

We’re grateful to San Carlos Living for the opportunity to share our story with the community. 💙

Measure H Phase I Improvements Are Complete!

We’re celebrating the completion of major summer upgrades at three SCSD campuses. Thanks to our community’s support of Measure H, students and staff are returning to climate-ready, modernized learning environments designed to serve our schools for years to come.

We were proud to mark this milestone with a ribbon-cutting alongside district staff, project partners, community members and local elected officials. Attendees included San Carlos Mayor Pranita Venkatesh, Vice Mayor San Carlos City Council Member Adam Rak, and Council Members John Dugan, Neil Layton & Sara McDowell, San Mateo County Supervisor Ray Mueller and San Mateo Country Board of Education Trustee Patricia Love.

💙 Thank you, San Carlos, for continuing to invest in our schools and our students!

New teachers learning, principals leading, and school site + district teams planning… school is almost here! 🍎

There’s a whole lot happening behind the scenes to make sure our students come back to the best teachers and staff, the best learning experiences, and some pretty amazing refreshed facilities!

So much thought, collaboration, and shared leadership goes into getting ready for that first bell. Next Wednesday, we get to see it all come to life! 💙

There’s a reason they call San Carlos the City of Good Living… and we think it’s a pretty great place for learning, too!
