On August 6, 2026, Naval Expeditionary Medicine Warfighter Development Center (NEMWDC) was honored to host Acting Navy Surgeon General Rear Admiral Matthew Case for an immersive site visit focused on warfighter readiness, specialized training, and future force development.
During his walkthrough, Case observed how NEMWDC integrates advanced training methodologies and operational logistics to prepare medical personnel for the modern battlefield.

High-fidelity training simulators: Demonstrates state-of-the-art simulation capabilities that stress-test medical personnel in high-pressure combat casualty scenarios, helps ensure high-yield readiness before deployment.

Warehouse and Logistics Training Support: Highlights how our warehouse operations are structured to mirror operational environments, providing realistic staging, inventory management, and tactical block supply movement for immersive training evolutions.

Staff Question and Answer and Strategic Dialogue: Engage directly with NEMWDC leadership, instructors, and staff in an open question and answer session to discuss strategic priorities, force design, and the evolving role of expeditionary medicine in distributed maritime operations.

Making history in Navy medical training.

Naval Expeditionary Medicine Warfighter Development Center (NEMWDC) instructors supported the first of its kind Expeditionary Medical Unit (EMU) course for the U.S. Navy, training EMU 2 from Fort Belvoir in realistic patient movement and expeditionary medical operations aboard USNS Point Loma (T-EPF-15).

Throughout the course, NEMWDC staff instructed the Expeditionary Medicine (EXMED) team on advanced manikin capabilities and patient movement techniques utilizing evacuation and treatment litters, patient transport device, and specialized rescue litters. The EMU practiced transporting simulated casualties through mission bays, shipboard elevators, Rigid-Hull-Inflatable Boats (RHIB), and across the flight deck while maintaining patient safety and communication in operational environments.

The training also included patient decontamination procedures, reinforcing the skills required to provide effective medical care in austere and maritime expeditionary settings.

This milestone marks another step forward in preparing EXMED teams to deliver lifesaving care anytime, anywhere.

Through his expertise, ingenuity, and relentless dedication, he helped strengthen medical readiness and directly supported the Navy’s mission of training and preparing deployable medical teams.
