Chafee leaders strengthen international partnerships.

USS Chafee (DDG 90) welcomed the leadership of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer JS Chōkai (DDG 176) aboard for a shipboard tour and professional lunch.

The visit provided an opportunity for both leadership teams to exchange operational insights, discuss future training opportunities, and strengthen the longstanding partnership between the U.S. Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Through engagements like these, our navies enhance interoperability, build trust, and reinforce our shared commitment to promoting security and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific.

Recognizing excellence across the crew.

USS Chafee (DDG 90) held an awards ceremony to recognize Sailors for their outstanding performance, leadership, and dedication to the mission. During the ceremony, Various Sailors received End of Tour Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, earned their Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) qualifications, and were advanced to the rank of Petty Officer Second Class.

These milestones reflect the professionalism, hard work, and commitment that keep USS Chafee mission ready every day. Congratulations to all of the awardees as well as the newly qualified and advanced Sailors on their well-earned achievements.

Sailors from USS Chafee (DDG 90) took the field during the Captain’s Cup at Naval Base San Diego, competing in Ultimate Frisbee and Alaskan Baseball as part of an interdepartmental athletic competition focused on teamwork, physical activity, and strategy.

USS Chafee Wardog Wednesday: MMFN Occeno

Machinist Mate Fireman Occeno was USS Chafee's wardog of the week due to his exceptional skill as a Recovery Assist Secure and Traverse (RAST) technician, maintaining crucial flight deck equipment and ensuring Chafee is mission ready at all times.

MMFN Occeno is from the Philippines and likes to spend his free time going on walks and cooking. He joined the navy to secure a better future for himself and his family. He wants to give a shoutout to his family back home for supporting him, especially his Grandmother who has always believed in him.

This week, Seaman (SN) Nakia Davis from USS Chafee's Deck Division is recognized as the Wardog of the Week for his exceptional management of the paint locker, ensuring the command had the necessary materials to maintain the ship's readiness and appearance.

SN Davis serves as the Paint Locker Distribution Manager for the command and as an Assistant Command Fitness Leader, his dedication to his jobs being a crucial part of the Chafee Team.

SN Davis joined the Navy to provide educational opportunities for his children, a goal that reflects his commitment to his family and his service. His hobbies include amateur boxing and fitness training.

He wants to give a shout out to his father back home for being an inspiration to his Naval Career. Join us in congratulating SN Davis on this well-deserved award!
