SDHC collaborated on these developments through financing and/or the award of rental housing vouchers to create affordable rental homes for San Diegans with lower incomes.

We’ve added 160 beds to Rachel’s Promise Center for Women and Children, bringing the total to 210.

For the second year in a row, San Diego has seen a decline in unsheltered homelessness. We need to keep that progress going by expanding safe shelter options and helping people move from the streets, into shelter, and ultimately into permanent housing.

When we offer someone help, we need to make sure there is somewhere they can go.

Thank you to our City and Housing Commission teams, nonprofit and faith partners, and private partners who came together to create a safe place for more women and children.

Thank you to all of our community partners, volunteers and participants who came out to our resource fair this past Saturday, July 18, for families in our rental assistance and public housing programs. Together, we shared resources about career services, managing your money and credit, and services like childcare, access to food, utilities and transportation.

In honor of Disability Pride Month, SDHC’s Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator, Dolores Diaz, shares about the importance of providing program access with dignity for people with disabilities as they overcome barriers. SDHC’s motto is “We’re About People,” and one of our core values is to “treat our clients, staff, community, and partners fairly and with dignity and respect.”

We welcomed U.S. Senator Adam Schiff today to the Harrington Heights development in downtown San Diego. Along with City Council President Joe LaCava, Councilmember Stephen Whitburn, Chelsea Investment Corporation, Alpha Project, and the San Diego Housing Federation we spoke with the Senator about his bill, the Housing BOOM Act, City of San Diego policies that support housing production, some of the challenges associated with financing and building affordable rental homes, and the essential collaboration among many partners that occurs in San Diego to create and preserve housing. We thank the Senator for his leadership and advocacy of important housing solutions.

If we want San Diego to bring down housing costs, we have to people can actually afford.

In , Community HousingWorks broke ground on Navajo Family Apartments — 45 affordable homes for families, seniors and San Diegans with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These homes are being built in a neighborhood with great schools, parks, transit, jobs and community amenities because every San Diegan deserves the chance to live in a good neighborhood and build a future here.

This project is proof of what happens when partners come together: Community Housing Works developing the homes, the City of San Diego’s Economic Development Department investing through Bridge to Home, our Development Services Department moving permits faster through Affordable Housing Permit Now, the San Diego Housing Commission helping finance long-term affordability, and San Diego County and others supporting the project.

When families don’t have to worry as much about rent each month, they can focus more on work, school, health and time together. That’s how we make San Diego more affordable for working and middle-class San Diegans — and we’ll keep doing it in neighborhoods across our city.
