The San Diego City Council voted to repeal homophobic language from the municipal code regarding regulation of bathhouses.
Removing this language updates the municipal code to reflect our values and our respect for all people of San Diego.

Another month is on the books as we begin September with three Committee Meetings. Audit Committee will hear the Hotline investigation of the City's Lease with Barnes Tennis Center. Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations will consider an amendment to the agreement and loan document for an affordable housing project at 17th and Commerial. Land Use and Housing. Land Use and Housing will vote on whether to declare seven small city-owned parcels as surplus land.

Councilmembers will hear an annual update from the Stormwater Department. As part of the informational item, the Office of Emergency Services will examine predictions for El Niño and discuss preparations for the potentially damaging event.

Monday’s Council Meeting addresses two contracts pertaining to San Diego’s streets. One is an amendment to an existing contract for pavement management software to manage conditions assessments and projects. The other is a five-year $60 million contract for paving materials and asphalt concrete.

Three Council Committees meet this week. Rules will consider initiating work on the Ethics Commission and changes approved by voters in the November 2024 elections. Community and Neighborhood Services will vote on accepting a $5 million grant for a linear park on Boston Ave. Active Transportation and Infrastructure considers a contract to replace a bridge at El Camino Real near Via de la Valle.

Councilmembers will consider a resolution condemning the Trump Administration’s Attacks on Higher Education. In the afternoon session, they will hear the City Auditor present their report on whether the city is maximizing city-owned golf facilities for revenue or public benefit.
