Our experts work to maintain and constantly improve our air quality to protect public health and our environment. We ensure commercial, industrial, transportation and agricultural businesses are permitted and comply with air pollution control laws, and we incentivize cleaner technologies by offering grant funds. We monitor and record air quality using a network of equipment stationed around the co

unty, and alert on the conditions. Our field staff inspects both permitted and non-permitted sources of air contaminants and investigates citizen complaints on air quality matters. We also work to help future generations have clean air through long-term regional plans to reduce unhealthful pollution levels and develop air quality rules. SDAPCD’s Fiscal Year 2026-27 Operational Plan & Fee Schedules are officially adopted, supported by a $135.1M balanced budget dedicated to improving air quality for every neighborhood in the region and SDAPCD projects and programs.

The funding includes our efforts to reducing emissions and protecting public health in San Diego County through our Monitoring, Compliance, Incentives, and other various work towards !

The Chief will be responsible for supporting the SDAPCD Engineering Division composed of engineers, air quality specialists, and support staff who collaborate to assess and regulate air pollution. This position provides leadership and collaboration with teams, sets priorities for air quality requirements and organizational goals, and focuses on meaningful organizational efficiency.

SDAPCD has released the Draft 2025 Air Toxics “Hot Spots” Program Annual Report for public review and comment, highlighting how the program works to reduce health risks from toxic air emissions to keep communities informed.

The report features key program activities of toxic air emissions in San Diego County that are shared with the public, including:

• Emissions Inventory of toxic air contaminants from operational facilities
• Health Risk Prioritization of air toxic emission scores
• Health Risk Assessments of adverse effects from toxic emissions
• Public Notifications of possible health risks from exposure to toxic air contaminants

A public hearing will be held on June 11, 2026, during the SDAPCD Governing Board meeting, where the Board will consider the report for approval.
