🐣 Baby birds are hatching at Batiquitos Lagoon! As SANDAG and Caltrans District 11 crews build a second rail track and replace a wooden bridge from the 1940s, we’ve also restored a nesting site for the California least tern, an endangered bird species.

This season, biologists have observed approximately 200 adult terns, 180 nests, and more than 300 eggs, with about 50 chicks already hatched! 😍 To protect them, construction within the lagoon has been paused and is expected to resume in August, after nesting season.
