The therapy dogs always lift the spirits of our veterans and staff. They don't care about mistakes or past troubles. Instead, they offer quiet, nonjudgemental support, and their wagging tails immediately turn a hard day around.

Petting a dog releases oxytocin (AKA the love hormone), lowers stress by lowering cortisol levels, and increases dopamine and serotonin levels to elevate mood. It's no wonder we see such big smiles when they visit our campus.❤🐾

Veterans at Stand Down are seeing a brighter future, thanks to the Lions Clubs International Optometric Vision Clinic (LOVC). Each year, LOVC provides essential vision care to Veterans, including eye exams, reading glasses, prescription eyeglasses, and even sunglasses.😎 These services make a meaningful difference in a Veteran’s ability to navigate daily life.

Their generosity extends beyond vision care. LOVC donated 500 CLIF Bars to be included in the Victory Backpacks provided to every Stand Down participant, as well as a generous monetary donation to further support VVSD’s mission.

We are grateful for community partners like LOVC, whose compassion, generosity, and partnership make a lasting difference.❤️

🧦❤ A heartfelt THANK YOU to the California Cotton Ginners and Growers Association (CCGGA) and Supima for their continued generosity and support of Veterans Village of San Diego. For the 8th consecutive year, their donation of 1,400 cotton socks is helping meet one of the most requested needs of Veterans attending Stand Down.

CCGGA President/CEO Roger Isom shared: “The California Cotton Ginners and Growers Association and Supima are proud to be a contributor to the Stand Down event each year. It is truly an honor to contribute to those who have defended this country and our rights and freedoms. The cotton industry is grateful for their service and are hopeful this helps the efforts and ultimate goal of the Stand Down event.”

Thank you for standing with our Veterans, year after year. Your generosity is deeply appreciated! ❤️

Healing Hands for Our Heroes!💙 One of the most exciting additions to Stand Down 2026 was welcoming Pacific College of Health and Science - San Diego (PCHS) to the event! For the first time, Veterans at Stand Down had the opportunity to receive massage and acupuncture services, thanks to the incredible PCHS instructors and students who generously shared their time, talents, and healing expertise. These services were met with tremendous appreciation from our Veterans, providing an opportunity to pause, relax, and focus on their health and well-being.

As Ryan Altman, DACM, L.Ac., Clinical Operations; Senior Manager at PCHS, shared after Stand Down, their students and staff have been asking how they can continue to serve those who've served in the Veteran community.❤️ That is exactly the kind of partnership we love at VVSD, one that doesn't end when Stand Down is over, but continues to find new ways to support our Veterans throughout the year.

PCHS has continued to demonstrate what it means to serve those who have served. Their students and staff have also brought these healing services directly to the VVSD main campus.

Thank you, PCHS, for bringing healing, compassion, and care to our Veterans. We are so grateful to have you as part of the VVSD family!🙏

It was truly an honor to have Pisano join us at Stand Down 2026. A retired U.S. Navy Chief and talented artist, Joe creates powerful 3D artwork that goes beyond honoring military service. Hi art shines a light on the struggles, sacrifices and experiences many Veterans face long after their time in uniform.

One of his pieces featured at Stand Down carries a particularly powerful message. The number 22 represents the tragic reality of Veteran su***de, while Joe challenges us to think about what can happen when we help someone hold on for just 22 more seconds…then 22 more minutes, hours, days, months or years. At the heart of that message is one simple but powerful word: HOPE.

Joe's art gives difficult subjects a visual voice while reminding us that behind every statistic is a person, a story and a life worth fighting for. Thank you, Joe, for using your art to honor those who served, and to remind us that hope can change everything.❤️
