ATTENTION ACTIVE DUTY: SASS SYSTEM OUTAGE

Got PCS orders? Do not let the current Suitability Assignment Screening System (SASS) outage delay your transfer!

The online SASS portal is temporarily down for new Active Duty Operational and Overseas Suitability Screening (OOSS) submissions. However, the 30-day timeline to complete your screening after receiving orders still applies. Do not wait for the system to come back online!

Here is your interim action plan:
1. Download Forms: Bypass SASS and grab the NAVMED 1300/1 & DD 2807-1 directly from our website.
2. Complete & Sign: Fill out your medical history and ensure Page 3 of the NAVMED 1300/1 is signed by your Dental provider.
3. Submit via DoD SAFE: Submit your completed packet securely using DoD SAFE. (Follow the legacy instructions listed under the "Dependents" tab on our site).

Note: The dependent screening process remains unchanged. If you already submitted your packet through SASS before 22 June 2026 (12:00 PST), our team is still processing it.

What a week of excellence in Navy Medicine! ⚓

In a fitting tribute to the Hospital Corps' 128th birthday, our Sailors teamed up with Marines from 1st Marine Logistics Group and partner commands to complete MERCEX 26-3, enhancing the readiness and integration needed to support missions around the globe.

From realistic casualty-response scenarios to strengthening the connection between USNS Mercy's reduced and full operating status teams, the exercise showcased the commitment of Navy Medicine professionals to serving others and remaining ready for any challenge.

🚑⚓ Readiness in action.

From June 15-18, Sailors assigned to USNS Mercy, Marines from 1st Marine Logistics Group and partner commands came together for MERCEX 26-3, a quarterly exercise designed to strengthen medical readiness and enhance the integration between the ship's reduced operating status and full operating status teams. These exercises improve operational effectiveness and ensures the Navy remains prepared to deliver expeditionary medical support whenever and wherever mission requirements demand.

The week culminated with a mass casualty simulation aboard USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) on June 17, challenging medical personnel to rapidly coordinate patient care in a realistic operational environment.

As the Navy celebrated the 128th birthday of the Hospital Corps yesterday, these Sailors and medical professionals demonstrated the same legacy of service, sacrifice and excellence that has defined generations of Hospital Corpsmen since 1898.

Happy 128th Birthday to the United States Navy Hospital Corps! ⚓️🇺🇸

This morning, Sailors assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command San Diego (NMRTC San Diego) hit the pavement for the annual Corpsman Cup Run. But the footprints left behind represent much more than a morning physical training session—they represent the enduring grit and operational readiness that has defined the Hospital Corpsman rating since June 17, 1898.

As the most decorated enlisted rating in the Navy, the Hospital Corps is the backbone of operational medicine. Pushing physical limits during today's run is just one way our Hospital Corpsmen ensure they are fully prepared for the rigors of the fleet and force.

Their dedication directly aligns with the Navy Surgeon General’s Line of Effort 1: Deliver and Sustain Whole Ready Naval Medical Forces.

To guarantee the survivability and lethality of our warfighters, our medical personnel must be physically and mentally prepared to deploy, integrate, and save lives in any environment—whether in a military treatment facility, aboard a ship, or in a contested battlespace.

To the men and women who proudly wear the caduceus: Thank you for your sacrifice, your resilience, and your unwavering commitment to keeping our forces in the fight.

Sailors assigned to the hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) participate in stretcher bearer training during the quarterly Mercy Exercise (MERCEX) 26-3 at Naval Medical Center San Diego, June 15. Innovation meets operational readiness! 💻⚓ NMCSD recently piloted the Navy’s first-ever virtual Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).

By bringing this critical trauma training online, we are actively Designing and Delivering the Future NAVMED Force (BUMED LOE 5) and ensuring we Deliver Medical Warrior Currency (DHA LOE 2).

Why this pilot matters:
- Provides standardized trauma education to nurses at geographically separated units or in austere environments.
- Sustains instructor qualifications remotely, helping us Assemble and Retain Talented NAVMED Forces (BUMED LOE 4).
- Creates a scalable blueprint to enhance Joint Warfighting Capabilities (DHA LOE 3) while saving significant travel costs.

Camaraderie, competition, and combat casualty care. ⚓️🎉

Amidst cheers and a festive spirit, NMRTC San Diego Sailors celebrated the U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman rate’s upcoming birthday by competing in the annual Corpsman Cup Challenge at , 12 June.

While the environment was full of laughter and teamwork, the events themselves are a powerful demonstration of our commitment to warfighter survivability. By navigating the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Obstacle Course, Stretcher Relay Races, Float Ops, and a comprehensive medical knowledge test, our Sailors showcased the critical, life-saving skills required to preserve the Naval human weapon system.

It was a great day of building unit cohesion and celebrating our heritage. Happy Birthday, Hospital Corpsmen!
