Carrier Strike Group 1 Mission - To support the CNO's Maritime Strategy by promoting regional partnerships, deterring crisis, projecting power and promoting maritime security

The Navy formally established Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1 in San Diego Oct. 1, 2009. "America's Favorite Aircraft Carrier" USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) is CSG-1's flagship, complemented with her embarked air power Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2. Led by Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 1, USS Lake Champlain (CG 57), USS Michael P Murphy (DDG 112), and USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) round out the Carl Vinson Strike Group.
