The City's Pure Water San Diego Program purifies recycled water to produce safe drinking water.

Pure Water San Diego is the City's phased, multi-year program that will provide nearly 1/2 of San Diego's water supply locally by 2035. The Pure Water program:
- Uses proven technology to clean recycled water to produce safe, high-quality drinking water
- Provides a reliable, sustainable, and local water supply
- Offers a cost-effective investment for San Diego's water needs

Pure Water San Diego

will increase the City's water independence and make it more resilient against drought, climate change and natural disasters. Phase 1 - North City will produce 30 millions gallons per day (mgd) by 2025. Phase 2 - Central Area will provide an additional 53 mgd, for a total of 83 million gallons per day by 2035. What happens once all connection points are complete?

That’s when the system comes to life. The new 48-inch pipeline moves wastewater north to the North City facilities for purification, while the 30-inch brine line carries the byproduct south to the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant. Keeping the process flowing and the system connected from start to finish.

: 💧 We’re pleased to share that Marian Bear Park is open to the public as of Saturday, May 30! Crews will be working intermittently on minor construction activities in the parking lot on Genesee Ave to finish the San Clemente tunnel crossing. 🏗️Over 1,000 feet tunneling and shaft work
👷Installing two 48-inch and 30-inch pipelines, and pipeline casing
🌱Hydroseeding, vegetation, and restoration activities

As a key connector of the Morena Conveyance System, the San Clemente tunnel is critical to Pure Water San Diego’s ability to deliver a safe, reliable, and sustainable water supply. May is in full spring 🌼

The Morena South & Middle Project has completed installation of 35,784 linear feet of 48-inch steel pipeline main and 36,153 linear feet of 30-inch brine line, connecting the Morena Pump Station to the Morena Northern Alignment.

Fun Fact: This milestone represents 375,256 working hours—with zero OSHA recordable incidents and zero lost workday cases.

Morena South & Middle Alert 🚧

Oh May! We are starting off the month strong. 💪

Last week, crews completed the second remaining connection point at Clairemont & Erie St. This is a major project milestone—linking the remaining segments of the South & Middle and completing approximately seven miles of 48-inch and 30-inch cement mortar-lined pipe. 🛠️
