Heads up Coronado!

Traffic units from across the county will be assisting us with traffic related issues THIS Wednesday. This means we combine our efforts with other law enforcement agencies to increase roadway safety. The goal of the enhanced enforcement day is to save lives and make it safer for all who travel on San Diego County roadways.

We also need YOUR help keeping our community safe. So please slow down, put the phone down, turn the music down and !

This year marks the 33rd year where members of law enforcement agencies throughout San Diego County will take part in Shop with a Cop. This program enables over 300 underserved youth with the chance to shop for gifts, clothing, or educational items using a Target gift card during the holiday season. Prior to shopping with an officer, each child is treated to breakfast and a show at Sea World San Diego. The children and their officers participate in a procession from Sea World to a Target Store. The children share a positive experience with law enforcement, and it affords the participating officers an opportunity to better know the community that they serve by making connections with local youth.

Help us make this year’s Shop with a Cop another memorable one! The Coronado Police Department and San Diego County District Attorney’s Office are hosting a BBQ Fundraiser to help support this year’s event. Every contribution helps us bring a little more holiday magic to deserving children in our community.

Officer Briones brings nine years of law enforcement experience from another San Diego County agency and is joining our Traffic Unit, bringing the team to five Motor Officers strong!

📚🚓 A new school year and a new role for Officer Rude!

Officer Rude is beginning her first year as Coronado’s School Resource Officer, and she’s looking forward to getting to know our students, families, and school staff.

For Officer Rude, being an SRO is about more than keeping our campuses safe—it’s about building trust, being a resource for families, and making sure our students know they have someone in their corner. 💙

And if you’re wondering what her long-term plans are… apparently it’s pastry chef. 🧁 We’ll enjoy having her as our SRO while we can. 😉

Bike the Bay is back this Sunday! 🚴‍♂️

The annual Bike the Bay cycling event takes place this Sunday, August 23. The route crosses the Coronado Bridge and follows the Bayshore Bikeway through Coronado and into Imperial Beach.

Bridge access will be limited during the event, with traffic restrictions in place 4 a.m. -11 a.m. Both directions of the bridge will remain open at reduced speeds.

In Coronado, expect heavy bicycle traffic along the Silver Strand bike path. Traffic will also be restricted in the 400 and 1300 blocks of Glorietta Boulevard as cyclists make their way through the city.

Officer Bugarin comes to us from a Northern California law enforcement agency and brings with him an abundance of knowledge and experience. We are excited to welcome Officer Bugarin to the team and look forward to having him serve our community.

If you see Officer Bugarin around town, don’t be shy—be sure to say hi and give him a warm Coronado welcome!

The new school year begins this Monday for our Coronado students, and we have a few important reminders to help ensure they have a great start!

Expect heavy pedestrian and bike traffic throughout town, especially around our schools. Slow down in those school zones and watch for kids in the crosswalks and bike lanes. If you happen to be a parent of one of those kids, be sure to remind them to follow all traffic laws, use designated crosswalks, follow crossing guard instructions, and wear a helmet if they are going to bike to school! 🚲

We will have extra officers around the schools to keep everyone safe and traffic flowing smoothly, so be sure to say hello.
