As the Naval shore installation management headquarters for the Southwest region (California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico), Navy Region Southwest provides coordination of base operating support functions for operating forces throughout the region. This includes providing expertise in areas such as housing, environmental, security, family services, port services, air services, b

achelor quarters, supply, medical and logistical concerns for the hundreds of thousands of active-duty, reserve and retired military members in the area. The command also serves as the regional coordinator for the Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, headquartered in Hawaii, coordinating support for bases in Southern California and Nevada. Last month Mr. Tim Bridges, executive director of Navy Commander, Navy Installations Command, presented the Inaugural Shore Command (Small Installation) Battle-E Trident Award to the Command Leadership of Naval Air Facility El Centro.

During his visit, Mr. Bridges, boarded a UH-72 Lakota and took an Air tour of National Defense Area 5. After the flight, Mr. Bridges toured NAFEC’s new Fire Station, visited the Secondary Border Wall project, and toured important sections of the NDA. Mr. Bridges departed NAFEC with a greater understanding of the unique challenges NAFEC endures with the acquisition of the NDA.

Last month CNRSW held a disaster preparedness exercise in case a tsunami occurred on the California coastline, but San Diego is also vulnerable to wildfires, earthquakes, and more.

Navy Band Southwest serenaded the San Diego skyline with military pomp and modern beats the evening of Thursday, August 27th at Progress Park on Harbor Drive.

This free, public concert was hosted by Commander, Navy Region Southwest Regional Commander RADM David Faehnle and the band was lead by Navy Band Southwest Director LCDR Matthew Shea.

Navy Band Southwest will perform a free concert of patriotic music today at Progress Park in downtown San Diego.

The hour-long concert starts at 6 p.m., and guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for comfort.

Progress Park is located at 999 N. Harbor Drive (at W. Broadway).

Navy Band Southwest is one of the Navy’s finest and oldest continuing musical organizations.

Now with over 100 years of support to the San Diego community, the band serves as the musical ambassador for the Commander, Navy Region Southwest. Under the direction of Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Shea, the band calls Naval Base San Diego home.

Commander, Navy Region Southwest held a Change of Command Ceremony on Thursday Aug. 20, 2026, where Rear Adm. Rich Jarrett relinquished Command to Rear Adm. David Faehnle aboard Naval Base Coronado.

RDML Jarrett, a Charleston, W. Va. native, leaves CNRSW after a 14-month tour that was highlighted by improvements to Sailor housing options in the southwest region, and the first ever NASCAR event held aboard a U.S. military installation.

RADM David J. Faehnle, of Columbus, Ohio, was previously the Commandant of Naval District Washington, before taking command of CNRSW from RDML Jarrett on Aug. 20th.

The ceremony took place at Pier O on Naval Base Coronado, overlooking the San Diego bay and skyline. RDML Jarrett was honored by hosting Mr. Tim Bridges, Executive Director of Navy Installations Command, as the guest speaker for the ceremony.

CNRSW is the Navy's installation command of the southwestern region of the United States, providing coordination of base operating support functions for Sailors throughout 6 six states. This includes providing expertise in areas such as housing, environmental, security, family services, port services, air services, bachelor quarters, supply, medical and logistical concerns for the hundreds of thousands of active-duty, reserve and retired military members in California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona.
