OutBoard Boating Club of San Diego Outboard Boating Club of San Diego is an all-volunteer, non-profit org over 100 members. Our goal is to promote safe boating.

We monitor the Shelter Island boat ramp, the busiest boat ramp in all of California. The Outboard Boating Club of San Diego is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization with over 100 members. The goal of the OBC is to enhance it's members boating experiences. Our principal duty is to monitor the Shelter Island public launch ramp and observe the surrounding area with regard to boating safety and ge

neral security. Our overall aim is to serve the interests of outboard boat owners, to stimulate a greater interest in boating among all of the citizens in the area served by the Club, to develop a fraternal spirit among local boating enthusiasts, and to help make outboard boating one of the safest sports in the country.

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for San Diego County’s coastal areas from 6 p.m. Monday through 11 p.m. Wednesday, August 12. Astronomical high tides between 7.2 and 7.5 feet are expected to peak each evening from approximately 7:30 to 10 p.m. Minor flooding could affect low-lying coastal parking lots, parks and roads. Drivers should not enter flooded roadways or go around barricades, and residents should move vehicles and protect property in locations historically affected by high tides.

This is an escalation of the extreme-tide warning previously issued by the City of San Diego.

Just reminder: There is a no-take seasonal closure of California grunion from 12 A.M. Monday, April 1, 2024, through 11:59 P.M. Sunday, June 30, 2024. Throughout the seasonal closure, grunion may only be observed, they may not be touched, handled or taken. During the open season, California grunion may be taken by hand only and the bag and possession limit is 30 fish per person. For more information, including a schedule of expected grunion runs and observation-only times for 2024, visit CDFW's grunion webpage.
