You might not be able to tell by the June gloom…but we kicked off summer by bringing together all of our Community Support Services branches! YMCA Youth & Family Services YMCA Expanded Learning Programs and YMCA Childcare Resource Svc 🙌🏼✨

Our staff came together for an afternoon of fun in the sun (kinda 😅), including a sound bath! We celebrated all our staff anniversaries from 5,10,15, 25, and wait for it…30 YEARS OF SERVICE! We had raffles, craft making, and Trader Joe’s can move over with their mini totes because our team made some custom mini totes of their own 🙌🏼😂

All in all, we’re ready to hit the second half of 2026 with our teams and we can’t wait to see what we get into this summer ☀️ We hope y’all have a great summer too!

Connection is Protection. Our youth are more vulnerable and need more support than ever, and we’ve see the impact of even one trusted adult relationship on youth mental health and overall well-being time and time again ✨

But we need support and resources to match the care gap that currently exists to ensure our youth are not left behind without real human support and connections.

With more than 20 years of service working with teens and youth navigating mental health needs, Director of Service Innovation, Kristina “TK” Halmai-Gillian, tackles the issue of what we need to support our youth in her piece in the 🙌🏼

Stronger connections means STRONGER FUTURES. In the last year we supported 866 children, youth and caregivers through our family-centered services. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

We see everyday how relationships and connections make all the difference for young people. We work to support youth in making those important connections and helping them build on skills to help them thrive into adulthood.

But supporting foster youth doesn’t stop there. We also work to support the families and caregivers who take on the important role of caring for children and youth!

We support both sides of this journey-helping young people who have experienced foster care build stability and prepare for adulthood, while also strengthening families so children can remain connected to the people who know and love them.

May is Foster Care Awareness Month, and this year we put FOSTER YOUTH IN FOCUS!

Each year, thousands of young people leave foster care without stable housing, meaningful relationships, or the support they need to navigate adulthood. At the same time, grandparents and relatives stepping in to care for children and prevent foster care involvement often carry enormous responsibilities with limited resources and support.

Through kinship support, mental and behavioral health services, family finding and engagement, independent living skills, and housing support, The YMCA Youth & Family Services focuses on building the relationships, stability, and support networks that children, youth, and families can rely on long after services end!

Our Foster Youth in Focus event brought together all these programs and services under one roof to share with our community partners the importance and impact of these services.
