US Navy All Hands Magazine March 1950 : U.S. sailors move through Mediterranean ports as everyday ambassadors, forging friendships far from home. In Istanbul, Turkey they walk the waterfront with local hosts; in Naples, Italy, shore patrolmen trade smiles with local police; in Cyprus, a carriage ride reveals ancient streets; and in Athens, pottery vendors share their craft. Together these moments capture how service members, simply by showing up with curiosity and respect, become quiet threads in a larger tapestry of global connection and have been doing so for over 100 years .🇺🇸 : https://allhands.navy.mil/

Named for an Alaskan bay shaped like a shamrock, she carried Wildcats and Avenger aircraft of composite squadrons. After the war she performed postwar repatriation, transporting thousands of service members home from distant island bases in the pacific. Her crew received the American Campaign, Asiatic‑Pacific (3 stars), WWII Victory, Navy Occupation (Asia), Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, and Philippine Liberation awards. 🇺🇸

USS Peleliu (LHA‑5), a decommissioned Tarawa‑class amphibious assault ship, was sunk in July 2026 during RIMPAC exercises, alongside cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG‑53). Both ships, retired after more than three decades of service, were struck by coordinated multinational firepower, including U.S. submarines launching Harpoon missiles, coalition aircraft, helicopters, artillery, and naval vessels, demonstrating joint lethality, interoperability, and commitment to regional stability in deep waters off Kauai, Hawaii 🇺🇸
