🌲Ready for your next adventure? ⛺😍

Today, in partnership with the National Forest Foundation, the U.S. Forest Service officially launched the National Forests and Grasslands Passport — a free, digital experience that makes it easier and more fun for visitors to track their adventures across our national forests and grasslands.

The Passport lets visitors check in at any national forest or national grassland they explore and earn specially designed digital badges inspired by our iconic Forest Service entrance signs. Each distinct Forest badge reflects the unique landscapes, wildlife, plants, and features that make each forest or grassland special.

The Passport offers another way for visitors to engage, record their memories, and stay connected to these public lands. Now get out there and enjoy your forest and collect those badges!

Last Friday, our contracted helitanker supporting Cleveland National Forest was involved in a tragic mishap on the Widemouth 2 Fire on the Fishlake National Forest.

Chris Andersen, 64, and Miles Elliott, 50 were piloting a Sikorsky S‑64 Skycrane when it crashed while working to suppress Utah’s largest wildfire of the season.

Our hearts go out to the families, friends, and colleagues of Chris and Miles. Their dedication, skill, and service to the wildland fire community will be remembered by all of us on the Cleveland National Forest.

“Chris and Miles were exceptional partners to our District. They shared their deep aviation and firefighting knowledge generously, mentoring our firefighters and integrating seamlessly with our team. Their professionalism, humility, and willingness to teach made a lasting impact on the Cleveland. We will carry their memory forward in the work we do every day.”
— Kyle Smith, Descanso District Ranger

Today, members of Cleveland National Forest, Cal Fire, Orange County Fire Association, California Fire Museum, and Colvin Safety Consulting gave remarks at the sign dedication for the Eastbound portion of California Highway 74, also known as the Wildland Firefighters Memorial Highway. The highway was dedicated in 1997, as a memorial to those who have lost their lives to a wildland firefighting.

The sign dedication shows the continued effort by the California Fire Museum to ensure that those firefighters who lost their lives are not forgot and that this beautiful section of California highway will continue to honor their memory for generations to come.
