The San Diego County Water Authority sustains a $268 billion regional economy and the quality of life for 3.3 million residents through a multi-decade water supply diversification plan, major infrastructure investments and forward-thinking policies that promote fiscal and environmental responsibility. A public agency created in 1944, the Water Authority delivers wholesale water supplies to 23 retail water providers, including cities, special districts and a military base.

San Diego County’s water strategy is getting attention beyond California.

During a recent FOX 10 Phoenix Phoenix interview, University of Arizona water policy expert Sharon Megdal highlighted the Water Authority’s efforts to create an interstate water exchange framework as part of the broader conversation around collaboration and water reliability in the West.

It’s a great example of how partnerships across state lines can create more flexibility, strengthen water reliability, and help build a more resilient future for San Diego and the West.
