Professional Mentors represent one of three types of TechWomen's volunteer mentors. These Chicago and San Francisco-based professionals working in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics help our international Emerging Leaders in to identify learning goals, develop a professional project, and gain exposure to professional networks and U.S. working practices and environments.

The best Professional Mentors are:
💡 approachable and accessible
💡 focused on soft skill development over technical development
💡 dedicated to investing time into their Emerging Leader
💡able to support the Emerging Leader's learning objectives
💡 able to support the Emerging Leader's project implementation
💡able to facilitate experiences that expose the Emerging Leader to an extensive professional network
💡 able to immerse the Emerging Leader into U.S. business practices and work environments

Innovation mentors, an evolution of our past impact coach role, are one of three types of mentor opportunities with TechWomen. Each innovation mentor will support a team of emerging women leaders in STEM through a three-day challenge to develop an impact project proposal designed to support initiatives that inspire change in their communities. Mentors who will excel in this role will have an interest in helping develop skills in design thinking skills, community initiatives, team collaboration, and leadership.

Some examples of successful TechWomen impact projects include:
🚀 Wata Na Life, an initiative established in Sierra Leone to advance access to clean, safe and sustainable water and prevent waterborne illness by and providing water treatment solutions to rural communities.
🚀Tech4Impact, an NGO founded in Uzbekistan that fosters female entrepreneurship and innovation in STEM
🚀eSTEm Morocco, a non-profit that works to promote education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (eSTEAM) among Moroccan girls.

In 2023, we took another great leap, expanding beyond the San Francisco Bay Area to incorporate into our footprint.

As we continue to grow our cross-national community, we are seeking Chicago and San Francisco Bay Area women to support and inspire our Emerging Leaders in from the Middle East, Africa, and South and Central Asia.
