DSA SF is hosting a guest speaker from San Francisco Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines () and Defend Negros NorCal Coalition (.norcal) to discuss the recent events that connect the strike against C&H Sugar in Crockett, California to the massacre of 19 land defenders and activists in Toboso, Negros Occidental in the Philippines.

We’ll dive into sugar’s bloody history, learn about the links in the imperialist global supply chain that bind us together in struggle, and discuss what we can do here in San Francisco.

Join us next Friday August 7th at the DSA SF office (1916 McAllister Street)

Last week, DSA SF showed up to support Supervisor Jackie Fielder at her first Mission Town Hall since coming back from mental health leave.

Jackie hosted town halls throughout her district to hear from neighbors and business owners about their concerns. We are in awe of how she continues to show up for her constituents: representing renters, making safer and vibrant public spaces, and fighting for affordable housing.

Despite the Board of Supervisors and Mayor Daniel Lurie voting to prioritize profit-driven development over maintaining affordable housing quotas, Jackie fought to preserve the quotas in the Mission, a neighborhood that continues to price out working families.

DSA works to organize renters and workers to fight for better conditions. And alongside our socialist-in-office, we support electoral efforts to build a truly affordable San Francisco. We know there are more of us that believe in this vision, but we have to come together. Start organizing with us by joining DSA SF today: dsasf.org/join (link in bio).

Daniel Lurie: Stop the transfer of the contaminated Naval Shipyard! 🚢

Bayview-Hunter’s Point residents are demanding the Mayor use his power to stop the transfer of any contaminated land at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard Superfund site from the Navy to the City for development. Our demands include:

- independent, community supervised retesting
- health reparations for impacted residents
- cleanup to the highest protective standards for residential safety

With cancer cases amongst residents of Bayview-Hunter’s Point more than DOUBLE those of the City’s average, organizations like and are organizing and demanding long term health monitoring and community investment from the City and the Navy.

You can learn more about stopping the sale of the Shipyard at greenaction.org/bayview-hunters-point. Sign the petition at the link in our bio and tell Mayor Lurie to respond. environmentaljustice

This Saturday, a group of housing advocates, neighbors, and launched our kick-off campaign to get the Affordable Housing Guarantee Act on the November ballot in San Francisco to make sure billionaires and luxury real estate pay their fair share to house working San Franciscans! The measure taxes real estate sales over $10 million and allocates the funds to rent relief, eviction protection and social housing, which means it’s permanently affordable, publicly owned housing!

While we passed a measure to tax luxury real estate in 2020 (Prop I), in recent years City Hall and the Mayor have designated the funds elsewhere. We need to pass this measure to guarantee the money raised goes to affordable housing! If we don’t pass it, the mayor is taking the funds away.

Join us to make San Francisco a place where working people can actually afford to live here!
