Do you work for a nonprofit in San Francisco and want to help San Franciscans keep their CalFresh in the wake of new federal work requirements?

We're issuing a “Request for Information” to identify nonprofits in San Francisco who may be interested in serving as “CalFresh Community Works Program Host Sites”.

Host sites would offer volunteer service hours that fulfill new federal work requirements, while enabling CalFresh participants to contribute to the San Francisco community and develop job skills.

We are interested in learning about current volunteer opportunities at your agencies or even ones you might think about creating for this purpose, e.g. people who could help greet and direct patients, prepare educational packets, help with mailings or information packets, organize materials, support outreach efforts, etc.

San Francisco is coming together for One City Day on July 11!

Across all 11 districts, volunteers will support neighborhoods through projects led by city departments, nonprofits, and community partners.

We’ll be co-hosting a 504 Rolling/Walking Tour with the Disability Cultural Center at 165 Grove St, and we'll also have our Mobile Benefits Center with eligibility workers available to provide outreach, answer public benefits questions, and assist with enrollment services.

Three tips to make the most out of your public benefits this summer:

1. Visit over 15 museums for free with your EBT or Medi-Cal card. You can visit museums like SF MoMa, Walt Disney Family Museum, and Cartoon Art Museum for FREE, and get three additional free tickets for friends or family. Learn more at SFHSA.org/museums.

2. If you have CALWORKs, SSI, or Tribal TANF, you can get free vehicle day-use access to many California State Parks. Check out the Golden Bear Pass at parks.ca.gov.

3. Use your CalFresh at local farmers market to double your food dollars. Farmers markets like the Alemany or Ferry Plaza Market participate in the Market Match program, which lets you use up $15 from your EBT and they add an additional $15 for you to spend at the market. Visit foodwise.org for more details.

On this bright and sunny Friday, we joined our partners from the CNSC - Chinese Newcomers Service Center 新僑服務中心 for their annual food giveaway event. We couldn’t have asked for a better day ☀️

5,000 bags of food were distributed to our neighbors.

Thank you to our partners for supporting our community with nutritious and culturally tailored food!

Keep your benefits and personal information safe from scammers!

If unsolicited callers ask for your personal or financial information, NEVER give it to them.

Be extra cautious of anyone who pressures you to act immediately or threatens negative consequences.

If you have EBT, download the official ebtEDGE app only - you can freeze/unfreeze EBT card access, request a new EBT card, change your PIN, and much more using the app.

Starting today (June 1, 2026), there are new federal rules for some people who receive CalFresh. To keep getting your benefits, you may need to participate in work-related activities when you apply for or renew your CalFresh.
