The San Francisco Estuary Wetlands Regional Monitoring Program (WRMP) has just released its first annual report! The WRMP, co-managed by the Estuary Partnership and San Francisco Estuary Institute / Aquatic Science Center, is sharing insights that answer the region’s key wetland information needs.

📢 The SF Bay Restoration Authority's Measure AA 2026–2027 Grant Round is open!

Funding is available for shoreline habitat restoration, flood management projects that are part of habitat projects, and public access projects connected to habitat projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Interested applicants are encouraged to complete a pre-application and request a consultation with Restoration Authority staff by September 4 to receive feedback before submitting a full proposal.

The 2026 EYC cohort ventured to North San Jose to visit the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center and Alviso Marina County Park. The day gave EYC members a closer look at the Estuary and helped connect what they learned to their upcoming capstone projects.

The Estuary Partnership is seeking a consultant for the Wetlands Regional Monitoring Program (WRMP) to assist with remote regional data collection to understand wetland visitation in the San Francisco Bay-Delta. This work will consist of advising the WRMP on best methods for remote visitation data collection and conducting pilot data collection for wetland visitation in the Bay Area. Proposals are requested by Friday, September 11th.

This August, we released the ninth Estuary Blueprint report! The Estuary Blueprint outlines a series of regional priorities that move us closer to achieving a healthy, resilient San Francisco Estuary. Here are some highlights from this quarter's report and accomplishments!

Yesterday, the Estuary Partnership joined Metropolitan Transportation Commission's first Community Partnership Exchange. The event focused on providing CBOs across the Bay Area’s nine counties and MTC-related programs with the opportunity to discuss how to expand and improve collaboration efforts, including resource sharing, funding opportunities, and alignment discussions.

The Estuary Partnership came out in force, sharing resources about the Estuary Youth Council, the North Richmond Watershed Projects, the Hayward Resilience Collaboration, the Wetlands Regional Monitoring program, and the SF Bay Restoration Authority.

Last week, the Estuary Youth Council (EYC) ventured to the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve in Union City. One of many former industrial salt ponds being restored through the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project, this tidal marsh habitat supports the life cycles of a variety of plants, fish, and birds, including the federally endangered Snowy Plover. Equipped with binoculars, the group learned about the reserve’s natural history and ongoing restoration efforts with guidance from Save The Bay (San Francisco)’s Education Program Manager, Haymar Lim. Putting down the binoculars and donning gardening gloves, the group practiced biodiversity monitoring and removed invasive species. 🌿

In the afternoon, EYC visited the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center to eat lunch and reflect on the morning’s activities. Later, Wendy Pacheco from the Youth Leadership Institute led the group through an educational activity on Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR). YPAR emphasizes the valuable perspectives and community-centered insights youth can bring to important research questions. The cohort will continue developing these research skills as they advance their capstone projects. 🔎

Join California Coastal Cleanup Day at Drakes Beach!

Point Reyes National Seashore, the Point Reyes National Seashore Association, and the California Coastal Commission are hosting a beach cleanup at Drakes Beach for California Coastal Cleanup Day.

📅 Saturday, September 19, 2026
⏰ 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
📍 Drakes Beach, Point Reyes National Seashore
Meet in front of the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center.

Volunteers will help collect debris and data as part of this annual statewide cleanup effort. The event is family-friendly, and walk-ups are welcome. Participants should bring work gloves, a bucket, water, sunscreen, and layers for cool coastal conditions.

Groups of 15 or more should register in advance.
