Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco, the Guardians of the Golden Gate Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco was opened on February 15, 1941and housed a PBY-5 Catalina and two RD-4 Dolphins. During WWII the station was tasked with Search and Rescue, coast patrols and the construction of the Long Range Aid to Navigation (LORAN) system.
