The picnic is a potluck, with the following food assignments (no nuts, please!):

2: drinks (healthy drinks only, please!)

🎶✨ What a great 4th & 5th Grade Spring Recital last week! Our talented young musicians dazzled us with their performances. From beautiful melodies to toe-tapping tunes, these students showcased their hard work and dedication. Bravo to everyone who played a part in making the afternoon so special! 👏👏

Harvey Milk Day is here once again and so we March for civil rights and social Justice. Our budding activists get a taste of what it's like to stand up for what's right and practice civil disobedience. As they grow we hope they take that practice into their teenage and adult lives. These kids are our future! So we teach them to fight for it!

On the eve of Harvey Milk Day, we wanted to take the time to thank the heart and soul of So You Think You Can Drag and brought the energy and talent to make it an unmitigated success this year. Specifically the fabulous Kylie Minono for loving this community and this event so much that she makes it happen through sheer force of will. Thank you for lending your voice and presence to support the Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy. Your passion and commitment to making a positive impact in our community shine brighter than any spotlight!

Together we raised over $42,000 for HMCRA! Thank you to all the performers, judges, volunteers and of course those who brought their wallets. We couldn't do it without everyone pitching in for this amazing event. 🎤💖

🌏✨ AAPI Celebration Dinner Recap ✨🌏

Wednesday's AAPI Celebration Dinner was an evening filled with rich stories and meaningful traditions. Hosted by Coach Glenn, the event began with an invitation for everyone to share their stories at the center of the circle. Guests, both of AAPI heritage and others, spoke about their ancestry, pointing out places on a map where their ancestors came from. Each person then poured a little water into the money tree in the middle, symbolizing growth and unity.

After the storytelling, it was time for a delicious feast — but not before honoring our elders. The tradition of "elders first" was observed, with the kids patiently waiting their turn 😅.

We were also introduced to Ms. Mary, a new staff member at the YMCA. She wore an ula fala, a traditional necklace for chiefs, and shared its significance. Ms. Mary also presented a rainbow-painted ula fala, highlighting the importance of inclusion, a value we hold dear at Harvey Milk.

Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and made the evening unforgettable! 🌟

🎨✨ Last day of cartooning fun with the amazing Sirron Norris for our Kindergarten and 1st graders! 🖍️🌟 It's been a blast watching our little artists bring their imaginations to life under Sirron's guidance. 🎉 Don't worry, though – while this chapter is ending, another exciting adventure awaits as Sirron moves on to work with the other Kindergarten class and 2nd grade next week. 🚀 Thanks for sparking creativity and spreading joy, Sirron! 🙌 🎈🌈

🎉 The results are in for this year's read-a-thon! Last Friday at morning circle, Tarrah Pollaro, our incredible read-a-thon organizer, presented certificates and prizes to the kids who read the most in each class. 🌟

We are thrilled to share that together, we raised over $4,000! 📚💰 Congratulations to all our top readers and a huge round of applause to all the participants. Your enthusiasm and dedication made this event a tremendous success! 🙌 📖❤️

🌟 Happy Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week! 🌟 This week, we're thrilled to shine the spotlight on two of our incredible team members: Coach Glenn and Ms. Laurance, the dynamic duo organizing this year’s Talent Show! 🎭🎤

👩‍🏫 Meet Ms. Laurance, our dedicated 4/5 teacher who is not only sporting a pink penguin t-shirt in solidarity with her colleague battling cancer, but is also the driving force behind bringing the talented Sirron Norris to our school to teach cartooning for the next few weeks. Her passion for the arts enriches our students' lives, nurturing the young artists at Harvey Milk. 🎨❤️

🏀 And then there’s Coach Glenn, a legend in our community! With over 20 years at our school, he's been the cornerstone as an elementary advisor and family liaison. But he’s so much more than that - he's a bridge connecting families with our school and inspiring our young people to engage with their community and uphold personal accountability. He truly is the heart and soul of our school. 💪🧡

Let’s give a big round of applause to these amazing educators who make our school a better place every day! 👏
