New Era for SFYD 2017

New Era for SFYD 2017 Building bridges to strengthen the Democratic Party, by empowering young San Franciscans to develop as our next leaders.

ABOUT NEW ERA

New Era: Building Bridges is a call to action to develop and diversify the membership of the Democratic Party. By growing away from ineffective strategies, we hope to give way to a more equitable and intersectional movement led by Young Democrats. Under our leadership, the San Francisco Young Democrats will be the vehicle for creating an infrastructure to recruit, train, and mobili

ze young San Franciscans to support the Party’s candidates at the local and state level, and ultimately to elect the next Democratic President. This will be a monumental task that will be made possible through our combined 25 years of experience as organizers, advocates, leaders, and with your help. Please vote New Era for SFYD executive board 2017 ! OUR BIOS

ANGELES ROY is a dedicated community organizer and electoral campaign worker with years of experience in local campaigns, specializing in political outreach and press relations. After moving to the US from Chile to study Political Science at UC Berkeley, Angeles dove head-on into high profile local races in San Francisco. Through years of campaign and organizing work, she learned first-hand how to build relationships and expand networks to achieve justice for her community. As a young immigrant, Angeles gained organizational leadership skills as a board member of the SF Chapter of the ACLU and Latinas for Reproductive Justice. In 2014, she joined SFYD, where she later served as Community Activism Chair. In 2016, Angeles was elected to the SFYD Executive Board, and currently serves as Secretary. RACHEL REIS is a campaign organizer and community outreach specialist with a deeply-rooted drive for social justice. She currently works as an organizer and writer for a local consulting firm, where she’s gained hands-on experience managing volunteers and staff, building coalitions, and fostering relationships. As the daughter in a line of single moms, Rachel has spent her career fighting for equality through education, policy research, and criminal justice reform. In her hometown of Seattle, Rachel worked at Seattle Municipal Court where she helped develop high school completion courses for defendants. She also assisted King County Community Corrections with researching alternatives to incarceration. After moving to SF to attend the Master of Public Affairs program at USF, where she assisted with writing, pitching, and securing a grant for local transitional housing for women rebuilding their lives, Rachel joined SFYD where she currently serves as the Vice Chair of Membership. Galvanized by Rachel’s organizing efforts around local advocacy issues, SFYD later offered Rachel the Chair of Community Activism. As Chair, Rachel has helped create a pipeline between SFYD and local nonprofit organizations, engaged new Democrats through voter registration drives, and increased membership outreach opportunities. ERIN MUNDY is a San Francisco/Bay Area native, community organizer, and trainee of a local political consulting firm. As a student journalist, Erin first discovered her drive for social change through writing and academia. Erin studied International Relations at SF State, and in 2015 was awarded the ISA West Undergraduate Paper Award for her Capstone Thesis (Postcolonial Representations and Private Foreign Aid). Over the last several years, Erin has joined local organizing forces and an SF-based consulting firm to arm herself with the tools she needed to give back to her community. As an organizer, former campaign manager, and successful fundraiser, Erin has earned years of experience in community-building, voter outreach, fundraising, event planning, and more. Erin is an active young Democrat and proud member of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club, the San Francisco Women’s Political Committee, and the International Studies Association. She's been a member of SFYD for over two years, and was appointed to the SFYD Board in 2016 where she currently serves as Co-Chair of the Issues and Actions Committee. NICOLE LINDLER is a Bay Area native whose passion for engaging young people in politics and the pursuit of justice brought her to SFYD. As a student at USC’s Marshall School of Business during the 2008 financial crisis, Nicole worked in underserved neighborhoods to save homeowners from foreclosure, standing up to big banks and relieving $1.2 million of mortgage debt from low-income residents in Los Angeles. Upon graduating, Nicole returned to SF where she currently works as the Asset Manager at Community Housing Partnership (CHP), a non-profit committed to providing housing and critical services for the formerly homeless. She currently serves as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for California Women’s List, an organization committed to creating gender parity in California state politics. As a first generation American with Jamaican roots, Nicole’s dedication to economic justice extends worldwide. In 2013, she founded BundleTree Baby, a social enterprise and international babywear venture to empower mothers in the developing world with sustainable income opportunities. Nicole is an avid world traveler, creative writer, painter, and a proud feminist. She currently serves as the Vice Chair of Events to the San Francisco Young Democrats, where she has organized and executed SFYD’s key fundraising events, including Spring Awards and Ball in Blue. MIA SATYA is a San Francisco-based community organizer with over a decade of advocacy experience specializing in youth empowerment, economic justice, racial justice, and LGBTQ liberation. Mia has served on over 10 committees in five City departments, and played many key roles in the reauthorization of the Children’s Fund that secured over $150 million a year in critical services. She received her Bachelor’s in Political, Legal, and Economic Analysis from Mills College and is a proud graduate of Emerge California, the premiere political training program for women. In 2015, Mia was honored as San Francisco Women's Political Committee’s “New Leader of the Year” and, in 2016 she was named as as one of the “Most Important Political Figures in San Francisco” by the Bold Italic. This year she was also honored as San Francisco Pride Grand Marshall and was elected to represent our City as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. Today, Mia serves as Director of Youth Engagement at TAYSF, where she facilitates youth engagement on the impacts of legislative policies affecting young people. She founded All Out: the LGBTQ+ Political Pipeline, a grassroots nonprofit organization committed to inspiring, educating, and connecting youth to change the world. Mia currently serves on the Board of the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club, and is an SFYD Member at Large.

We're here. We're vigilant. And we'll be watching this administration. If at any turn it tries to obfuscate equality, we will resist. This is one march of many.

The New Era slate is honored to announce we've received the endorsements of City College Trustee-elects Shanell Williams, Tom Temprano, and Alex Randolph, who are fighting tirelessly to protect Free City College and access to education. We were among the 62% of voters who supported Prop W this November, proudly casting our votes in favor of equal access to quality education. While we're dismayed at the efforts by some in City Hall to undermine the will of the 225,000 voters who supported Prop W, we are incredibly proud to stand beside these three fellow Young Democrats who are leading the charge to ensure our elected officials keep their promise.

Thank you Trustee-elects for this honor - we can't wait to see where you lead us!

As Democrats we have an opportunity to come together to support a better future for everyone, and I believe that with New Era leading we will invigorate SFYD, strengthen our local Democratic party, and create ripples of change that will have a national impact. I am running to be Secretary, because as someone who has served on over 10 committees in 5 City departments I know my experience taking detail oriented notes will be instrumental in keeping our club on track to reach our collective goals. I hope to earn your vote, so that we can build bridges together.
