On August 20th, HAC co-hosted an East Bay Candidate Mixer at Kinfolx in Oakland alongside East Bay for Everyone, East Bay YIMBY, Greenbelt Alliance, and Seamless Bay Area.

Across this coalition, we built a nonpartisan, informal space where residents could talk directly with the candidates and electeds shaping housing decisions across the East Bay this November — from Oakland and Berkeley to Alameda, Emeryville, San Leandro, AC Transit, and BART.

We were honored to have Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee join, along with more than two dozen candidates and sitting officials from across the region.

This is what community building looks like for us: cross-jurisdictional, multi-org, and grounded in real relationships between residents and the people making decisions about their neighborhoods. That connective tissue is a big part of what we love bringing to our members: access, context, and a seat at the table.

Condo construction in California has declined over the past two decades. Not because of land costs or permits, but because broken defect laws let lawsuits fly before builders even get a chance to fix the problem.

AB 1903 changes that, requiring repairs first, real damage, and a clear finish line for builders who do it right.

It already passed the Assembly, and now it's the last week for the Senate to vote on this bill.

San Francisco just approved its first housing project under the Family Zoning Plan — an 8-story condo building in the Inner Richmond! 🏗️

This is exactly what rezoning is supposed to do: turn good policy into homes that San Franciscans desperately need. HAC supported the Family Zoning Plan because we know the only way to make SF affordable for the next generation is to build more housing.

One project won't solve our housing shortage. But it's proof the pipeline works — and there's more coming!
