San Francisco is suing 16 of the most-visited websites that create and distribute nonconsensual deepfake po*******hy of real adults and minors.

This is a first-of-its-kind lawsuit that alleges the website owners and operators violate CA and federal laws prohibiting deepfake po*******hy, revenge po*******hy, and child po*******hy.

This investigation has taken us to the darkest corners of the internet, and I am absolutely horrified for the women and girls who have had to endure this exploitation.

This is a big, multi-faceted problem that we, as a society, need to solve as soon as possible.

City Attorney David Chiu has filed a lawsuit seeking to permanently shutter 16 popular websites that turn images of real girls and women into po*******hy.

City Attorney David Chiu Will Be Holding a Press Conference

08/08/2024

On Wednesday, August 7th, at 8pm EST / 5pm PST, I am co-hosting a virtual event with AANHPI elected officials, celebrities, and community leaders: AANHPI Men for Kamala. We hope you can join us.

Click here to donate: https://secure.kamalaharris.com/a/aapi-bvf?attr=115160345

The event will feature Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, Maulik Pancholy, BD Wong, Ryan Alexander Holmes and more than 30 other elected officials, entertainers and special guests.

In a little more than 3 months from now, our country will vote in the most consequential election in our lifetimes.

We salute President Joe Biden for his tremendous record of delivering so much to our country, as well as his selfless grace in passing the torch to a new generation of leadership.

We are beyond excited to support Vice President Kamala Harris as our Democratic nominee. She is immensely qualified, ready to lead our country, and will make history.

Recently, South Asian and AANHPI Women for Harris organized events to recruit new supporters for her campaign. South Asian Men for Harris followed suit. We are organizing AANHPI men to follow their lead and support the election of our first woman President who would also be America's first President of Asian and African descent.

Americans could choose to go backwards in supporting Donald Trump, a convicted felon who has undermined our democracy, ripped away fundamental freedoms, and instigated a wave of anti-Asian hate. Or we could elect Kamala Harris, a proven leader with a decades-long career in public office, who has worked side-by-side with President Biden getting things done for the American people and restoring America's standing on the international stage.

Special Thanks to our Host Committee: Hon. Rob Bonta; Hon. David Chiu; Hon. Andy Kim; Hon. Ted Lieu; Hon. John Liu; Hon. Jeff Maloney; Hon. Aftab Pureval; Hon. William Tong; Kenneth Chen; Alex Hetherington; Sam Hyun; Tim Lim; Evan Louie; Edwin Salcedo; Eric Salcedo; Eddie Shiomi; Jyot Singh and Alistair Stephenson.

My Office secured three separate court victories, collectively worth over $2.5 million, against landlords who created serious health & safety issues for tenants. I’m grateful our Code Enforcement Team is holding these property owners accountable.

Here is more information about SF's lawsuit against the owner of the Marathon Hotel, who created a public nuisance and violated multiple State and City laws by neglecting the property and endangering the health and safety of the tenants.

Last night, I joined public health advocates at SF City Hall to recognize the upcoming World Hepatitis Day and raise awareness about the impact of the disease, especially on AAPI communities. 1 in 12 AAPI immigrant adults are chronically infected with Hepatitis B in the US.

Get tested - get vaccinated - get treated. Working together, we can bring about a world that is Hep B Free.

Today, we thank President Biden for his tremendous public service and his record of delivering so much to our country, as well as his selflessness and grace during this difficult moment in American history.

As a California DNC delegate, I’m incredibly excited to support Vice President Kamala Harris to be our next Democratic nominee. She is immensely qualified, ready to lead our country, and will make history. Since our days together in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, I’ve seen her brilliance, compassion, and fierce sense of justice, and know she’ll be a tremendous fighter for the people.

In 2022, I established the Worker Protection Team in our office to investigate and litigate instances of wage theft, worker misclassification & other abusive workplace practices. I’m so proud of what this team has accomplished since then.

Thank you Mission Local for spotlighting our Worker Protection Team and their important successes combating misclassification and securing landmark wins for workers.

San Francisco's "Worker Protection Team" has targeted gig companies, tech firms, and more — and has no intention of slowing down.

Today SCOTUS ruled in Grants Pass v. Johnson that enforcement of laws regulating camping on public property is not barred by the 8th Amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment.

The Grants Pass decision will have significant implications for San Francisco, which is in the midst of a lawsuit about its ability to resolve tent encampments & operating under a preliminary injunction order relying on the Ninth Circuit precedent of Grants Pass.

Today’s SCOTUS decision overturns that Ninth Circuit decision, reversing much of the precedent that the preliminary injunction order in Coalition on Homelessness v. San Francisco is based on.

SF will continue to take a compassionate, services-first approach to addressing our homelessness crisis. It will take time to analyze this decision & chart a path forward. But we are working quickly to ensure our litigation catches up with the decision today.

SCOTUS’ decision will give cities more flexibility to provide services to unhoused people, while keeping our streets healthy and safe. It will help us address our most challenging encampments, where services are often refused and re-encampment is common.

Additionally, I am pleased that the Court took a more judicious approach, as the City argued in our amicus brief, and did not overturn precedent set in Robinson v. California that prohibits the criminalization of a person’s status.

Robinson is important precedent, and today’s opinion leaves many constitutional protections in place for unhoused individuals.

We can breathe a sigh of relief that Idaho hospitals are able to provide emergency abortion care for now. But the Court kicked the can down the road, leaving a dangerous 5th Circuit ruling in place that jeopardizes the lives and health of pregnant people.

My Office joined Santa Clara County and other local governments in an amicus brief advocating for timely emergency care for pregnant patients.

In CA and in my office, we are doing all that we can to protect abortion care and those who need to access it.

The court opted against deciding whether Idaho’s abortion ban conflicts with a federal law that sets standards for hospital emergency room care, leaving legal question unresolved.

It has been two years since SCOTUS issued the Dobbs decision, overturning Roe v. Wade and 50 years of precedent protecting the right to abortion. My Office continues to defend the right to choose and ensure SF and CA are safe havens for those seeking or providing abortion care.

Achieving this final step in the recertification process means Laguna Honda, a critical public health institution and essential safety net, will be here to care for San Franciscans for generations to come.

Thank you to our government partners, Laguna Honda staff, SF Public Health, and many Deputy City Attorneys for all of the work that led to this wonderful result.

Laguna Honda Hospital has regained federal approval to resume caring for residents on Medicare, ending a two-year saga that threatened to shut it down.

06/20/2024

The California Supreme Court ruled an anti-tax ballot measure that would have had disastrous consequences for local governments was unconstitutional. San Francisco joined other local governments in an amicus brief advocating that the measure be removed from the statewide ballot.

This measure was an attempt to gut the services local governments are able to provide to residents. We are immensely grateful that the court saw through this attempt and that the measure will not appear on the November 2024 statewide ballot.

A business-sponsored initiative that would have required voter approval for any increase in state or local taxes or fees must be removed from the ballot.

Today SCOTUS overturned a federal ban on bump stocks, which were used in the 2017 Las Vegas shooting that injured hundreds and killed 60 people within minutes. These weapons of war should not be in our communities. Congress must act to ban them.

The Supreme Court on Friday struck down a federal ban on bump stocks approved by former President Donald Trump, the high court’s latest stroke limiting the power of federal agencies to act on their own.
