Twenty seven years ago, as a young civil rights lawyer, I represented in a lawsuit that successfully challenged state rules that would have kicked immigrant tenants out of affordable housing. Last night, we celebrated 55 years of Mission Housing’s deep roots in our community – Hasta La Raiz — and their incredible work building affordable housing and uplifting diverse, low-income families. Here’s to the next 55!

My Office reached a settlement agreement with the owners of the Alice Griffith housing complex. This is the first code enforcement settlement in our City’s history that requires owners not only to pay penalties, but also to invest settlement funds directly into property improvements. The Alice Griffith residents deserve a safe place to call home, and this settlement represents a meaningful step toward improving their living conditions.

This was a group effort, and I want to thank Supervisor Shamann Walton, Mayor Daniel Lurie, SF MOHCD, and the Alice Griffith residents for their partnership.

Americans deserve to know what’s in our food. The Trump Administration has an opportunity to take a meaningful step toward improving public health by finalizing a science-based definition of ultraprocessed foods. Instead, the definition has been delayed after pressure from the food industry. Public health policy should be driven by science, not corporate lobbying.

The federal government was supposed to release a definition of ultraprocessed foods. What happened?

Today’s decision prevents the Federal Administration from imposing political conditions on federal housing and transportation grants. The Federal Administration tried to force local governments to adopt its political agenda or risk losing critical funding, but the courts have continued to rule in our favor. Cities should not be forced to choose between their values and funding for vital services.

The Trump administration can’t cut off federal funds to local governments if they don’t cooperate with his policies on immigration, abortion and gender ideology, a federal appeals court ruled.

Very disappointing to hear that Meta ran ads for an AI porn-generation app on Apple’s App Store that encouraged users to create deepfakes of female politicians. Last month my office sent cease and desist letters to Apple and Google for profiting off these “nudify” apps that let users generate nonconsensual intimate deepfakes of real women and girls. This is unacceptable, and these companies must do better.

One advertisement featured a pornographic video with a deepfake closely resembling a prominent US politician. Apple removed the app from the App Store after an inquiry from WIRED.

Ultra-processed foods are making Americans sick. Recent studies have linked overconsumption of ultra-processed foods to a multitude of illnesses, including colorectal cancer, which has doubled in young adults. Last year, the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office sued some of the country’s largest manufacturers of ultra-processed foods. Our lawsuit alleges the food industry knew their products were making people sick, but they continued to devise and market increasingly addictive and harmful products to maximize profits.

President Trump is pushing for greater control over the election process ahead of the midterm elections in November, but we are fighting back. My Office joined more than 100 local governments and election officials in filing an amicus brief in California v. Trump, urging the Supreme Court to uphold the Constitution and preserve stability for the 2026 elections.

President Donald Trump’s emergency appeal aimed at limiting the use of mail ballots is poised to test a controversial, 20-year-old Supreme Court principle that was intended to avoid chaos before elections.

ICYMI: My Office sued two hotel booking sites, GuestReservations.com and BookOnline.com, for imitating real hotels and scamming travelers.

A new lawsuit filed against two hotel booking sites allege the companies scammed travelers into paying exorbitant prices for hotel rooms — in some cases, up to 85% more. San Francisco’s City Attorney says GuestReservations.com and BookOnline.com pose as authentic hotel websites in order to charg...
