WritersCorps Between 1994- 2016, the WritersCorps program placed professional writers in community settings to teach creative writing to youth.

Between 1994-2016, the WritersCorps program mentored youth through free creative writing workshops taught by professional writers. These workshops took place in-school and after-school at public schools, libraries, the Juvenile Justice Center, and community organizations. WritersCorps also published youth writing and produced events, such as readings and WordStorm, the annual literary arts festiva

l at SFPL. During this period, WritersCorps helped more than 21,000 young people from neighborhoods throughout San Francisco improve their literacy and increase their desire to learn. Apply to the WritersCorps Teaching Artist in Residence (WCTAIR) grant by November 16, 2016. This three year $40,000 grant, renewed annually, provides support to individual teaching artists to offer free long-term, in-depth literacy-focused arts workshops to youth at San Francisco schools or community-based organizations. During the 2015-2016 academic year, students from Hilltop Special Services Center participated in a collaborative poetry/theater workshop led by teaching artists Annie Rovzar of WritersCorps and Tristan Cunningham of A.C.T.. Students explored the issues and stigmas facing teen moms. Learn more about this workshop and book of poetry students created as well as the short documentary film (behind the scenes) and performance of "What You Don't See" (both videos on our YouTube channel).

Fresh off the press! Sneak preview of our 2016 publications by youth from our community partners: Aptos Middle School, College Track | San Francisco, Hilltop high school parenting school, International Studies Academy, Sanchez Elementary, Juvenile Justice Center, and Oasis For Girls. Congratulations to all of our amazing young writers who continue to inspire us every day of the year.
