Today was Flynn’s Arcade, one of our annual school traditions inspired by ’s, the short documentary about a 9-year-old who built an entire arcade out of cardboard.

Our 4th and 5th graders designed and built their own cardboard arcade games, then students from other classes came to the cafeteria to play, win little prizes, and check out what their older schoolmates created.

Such a fun way to see our students’ creativity, problem-solving, and imagination in action. 💚💗

Hoy fue Flynn’s Arcade, una de nuestras tradiciones anuales en la escuela, inspirada en Caine’s Arcade, el cortometraje sobre un niño de 9 años que construyó toda una sala de juegos con cartón.

Nuestros estudiantes de 4.º y 5.º grado diseñaron y construyeron sus propios juegos de arcade con cartón. Luego, estudiantes de otras clases vinieron a la cafetería para jugar, ganar pequeños premios y ver lo que sus compañeros mayores habían creado.

Una forma muy divertida de ver la creatividad, la resolución de problemas y la imaginación de nuestros estudiantes en acción. 💚💗

We opened Flynn’s gates on Saturday for our S.T.E.A.M. Discovery Day! A ton of families and neighbors came out to explore and learn side by side… live science, hands-on activities, robotics, animals, and free books to take home, all in one afternoon.

Kindergartners have been learning about butterflies in science 🦋

They spent time making observations and writing about what they noticed… slowing down, looking closely, and putting their thinking into words. This time of year, it’s especially exciting to see how much their writing abilities have grown!

Some of our 4th graders went to read to younger students this week! Here are two of our students reading to a kindergarten class. 📚

They read a book together and spent a little time getting to know each other. It’s a simple way to bring students across grades together… and something our teachers know builds a stronger sense of community across the school.

Leyeron un libro juntos y compartieron un rato para conocerse mejor. Es una forma sencilla de unir a estudiantes de distintos grados… y algo que nuestros maestros notan que fortalece el sentido de comunidad en toda la escuela.

Second and third graders headed to San Francisco Public Works this week… one of the highlights of the year for our students! 🌱🌳🔨🚧👷🚜

They visited the yard, got a close look at the equipment, and learned about the people and work that keep our city running every day. It’s always a favorite… and a great way for kids to see what it means to take care of our community.
