❤️ Hunger Action Month: Nourishing Our Neighbors
Hunger Action Month is a time to stand together and make sure our neighbors have access to the food they need-not just today, but every day. At North Beach Citizens, our partnership with the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank helps make that possible. Through our daily food pantry and meal service, we help supplement a meal each day for our seniors and neighbors experiencing homelessness, providing nutritious food to people who might otherwise have to choose between eating and meeting other basic needs. For many of our clients, food insecurity is intertwined with housing instability, limited income, disability, and isolation. A reliable source of nutritious food can be an essential first step toward greater health, stability, and dignity. But federal cuts to CalFresh (SNAP) threaten to make food insecurity even more difficult for vulnerable Californians. These cuts aren't just numbers-they can mean smaller grocery budgets, skipped meals, and greater hardship for our neighbors. We invite you to take action: raise awareness, support local food programs, share resources, and help ensure that no neighbor has to face hunger alone. Click on the link below to sign the petition:

Every meal matters. Every neighbor matters. ❤️

💛 A Very Special Thank You to James!
While the San Francisco Food Bank is out this week for training, James stepped up in a big way to make sure our weekly food pantry could continue serving our neighbors. Our food pantry was established in 2010 and has been an important part of how North Beach Citizens supports our community. This week, James personally purchased the food we needed and brought us 3200 pounds of food to help us through this critical week. We are incredibly grateful for his generosity and for helping ensure our clients could continue receiving the food and support they depend on. Thank you, James, for helping us keep our pantry stocked and our community cared for! 🥫💛

💛 A very special thank you to Juniper Square for today’s generous food donations! What made today’s gift even more meaningful? Their team personally carried the donations up from their offices on Clay Street and walked them over to North Beach Citizens a simple, hands-on act that truly embodies what it means to make an impact locally. 💛Your support helps us provide nutritious food to our neighbors and meet an essential need in our community. With food prices continuing to rise, access to healthy, nutritious food remains a significant challenge for many households. In the last year alone, food prices are 3% higher, creating a burden on our clients trying to meet their basic needs. Thank you, Juniper Square, for showing up for our neighbors-not just with a generous donation, but by putting compassion into action, right here in our community. Every contribution makes a difference. Every neighbor—whether a resident, merchant, visitor, or professional working nearby—plays a part in strengthening our community. Your support matters.

At North Beach Citizens, our work is about the person sitting across from a case manager, the neighbor looking for a safe place to call home, and the individual who needs someone to walk alongside them during a difficult time. For 25 years, we’ve been helping our neighbors access food, secure housing, navigate healthcare, and find greater stability through compassionate, relationship-based support. Because sometimes what makes the biggest difference is simply knowing someone is there. That’s what neighbors helping neighbors looks like. 💛

What does it cost to leave someone homeless on the streets of San Francisco?
An estimated $60,000–$80,000 per person, per year-largely driven by emergency room visits, law enforcement, and crisis services. In just three months, North Beach Citizens has helped 14 people secure or remain in housing through our low-barrier, relationship-based case management. The cost savings is obvious.
One of them is Bryan. This week, after years without stable housing, Bryan signed his lease and received the keys to his permanent home in North Beach. The systems he needed to navigate felt insurmountable, but with a dedicated advocate by his side, he moved forward. But the cost savings aren't what drives us.
We show up because compassion, when put into action, changes lives. We build trust. We listen. We help our neighbors navigate systems that can feel impossible to face alone. And ultimately, we help people move from surviving to thriving.

So far this year, North Beach Citizens has served 3,725 lunches to our neighbors experiencing homelessness and housing instability. For many, these meals provide more than nutrition. They offer a welcoming place to connect with caring staff, access resources, and take the next step toward stability.
Food insecurity remains a growing challenge:
Nearly 1 in 4 adults in California experience food insecurity or struggle to afford enough nutritious food.
Thank you to our donors, volunteers, and community partners who make this work possible. Together, we nourish our community-one meal at a time. 💛
