PTIC-SV Joins Opening of The Hinabi Project: The Art of Philippine Textiles 2026

PTIC-Silicon Valley was honored to participate, upon the invitation of The Hinabi Project, in the opening night of The Hinabi Project: The Art of Philippine Textiles 2026 at Sentro Filipino in San Francisco, joining the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco and members of the Filipino-American community in celebrating Philippine textile heritage.

The exhibit showcases the richness and diversity of Philippine weaving traditions through antique, vintage, and contemporary textile pieces from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, featuring textiles crafted from cotton, silk, abaca, and piรฑa.

As an invited speaker, Philippine Trade Commissioner Kristine Umali delivered remarks on behalf of PTIC-SV, highlighting Philippine textiles as living traditions that embody the country's cultural identity, craftsmanship, creativity, and innovation. She underscored the Philippine creative economy as a strategic pillar for inclusive growth and emphasized the role of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and PTIC-SV in connecting Philippine artisans, creative enterprises, and MSMEs with opportunities in the U.S. market.

The occasion also provided an opportunity to invite attendees to Rimat ti Amianan (โ€œTreasure of the Northโ€): Inabel Weaves of Ilocos โ€“ Pop-Up Showcase in San Francisco, taking place on June 9โ€“10, 2026, at the Philippine Center in San Francisco. The showcase will feature artisan-woven Inabel textiles and creative products from the Ilocos Region under the Inabel Collective Mark initiative.

PTIC-SV congratulates The Hinabi Project and its partners for their continued efforts to preserve, promote, and elevate Philippine textile traditions and weaving communities, while helping bring Filipino creativity and craftsmanship to wider audiences.

PTIC-Silicon Valley (PTIC-SV) supported the 4th Annual CHOW FUN (), San Franciscoโ€™s citywide Asian dine-around celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, through participation in a Food Crawl organized as an opportunity to engage with Filipino food establishments and promote food and ingredient sourcing from the Philippines, including IFEX Philippines (), the countryโ€™s premier international food and beverage trade exhibition.

Trade Commissioner Kristine Umali joined the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco (PCGSF)(), led by Consul General Arnel Talisayon with Vice Consul Glaiza Quarteros, for a Filipino Food Crawl organized and hosted by CHOW FUN Project Manager Al Perez across select establishments in the Excelsior, Ocean Ave, Geneva Avenue, Visitacion Valley, and Portola neighborhoods.

During the crawl, TC Kristine Umali engaged directly with owners and founders and promoted IFEX Philippines, the countryโ€™s premier food and beverage trade exhibition. She also introduced PTIC-SVโ€™s role in connecting Philippine suppliers with U.S. market opportunities, as part of PTIC-SVโ€™s continuing efforts to position the Philippines as a competitive and reliable source of food and beverage products for the U.S. market, covering both finished consumer-ready goods and ingredients for retail, food service, hospitality, and manufacturing.

PTIC-SVโ€™s engagement at CHOW FUN with the participating food crawl establishments advances its mandate to expand the market for Philippine products in the U.S. through facilitating trade linkages and sourcing partnerships between Philippine suppliers and food industry stakeholders.

PTIC-Silicon Valley participated in the Closing Culinary Event of the 4th Annual CHOW FUN in San Franciscoโ€™s Portola neighborhood, with Trade Commissioner Kristine Umali in attendance to celebrate the successful culmination of the citywide Asian dine-around initiative. The closing event was hosted by CHOW FUN Project Manager Al Perez and brought together participating merchants, community partners, and supporters in celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) food, culture, and entrepreneurship.

As part of its support for the initiative, PTIC-SV provided curated Philippine gift boxes featuring specialty Filipino food snacks and other Philippine food products, which were included among the raffle prizes for the CHOW FUN Passport participants. The gesture recognized DTI PTIC-SVโ€™s support for the 15-day culinary celebration spanning 71 merchants across five San Francisco neighborhoods: Excelsior, Ocean Avenue, Geneva Avenue, Visitacion Valley, and Portola.

PTIC-SVโ€™s support and participation in CHOW FUN reflects its continuing efforts to engage Filipino and Asian food entrepreneurs and strengthen awareness of the Philippines as a competitive and reliable source of food and beverage products for the U.S. market, from consumer-ready goods to ingredients serving the retail, food service, hospitality, and manufacturing sectors. The initiative also supports PTIC-SVโ€™s broader mandate of expanding market access for Philippine products and fostering trade linkages between Philippine suppliers and U.S.-based businesses and communities.
