Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco

Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco We build homes & sustain homeownership opportunities for families in SF, Marin, and San Mateo. Social Media Community Commenting Policy:

Habitat never gives homes away. When a family applies for one of our homes they must undergo an extensive application process. Our main requirement is that families earn between 40% and 80% of the median income in that county. Once approved the family begins to complete their 500 hours of sweat equity, our version of a downpayment. They complete this onsite, swinging hammers right next to the othe

r volunteers. After the home is done, the keys are handed over in a dedication ceremony. The family then owns the house with a zero-interest mortgage and a payment plan setup specifically for their needs.

🎉 Introducing Sequoia Haven Homes, our new project bringing affordable homeownership to San Francisco's Mission District.

We recently purchased a three-unit building that we'll transform into affordable homes for homeownership, in a city where the average home price exceeds $1.4 million.

One home at a time, we're building a more affordable Bay Area. Together, we build community. 🏠

What could 50 new affordable homes mean for Novato? 🏡

Our Redwood Boulevard project is working to create affordable homeownership opportunities for more than 200 low- and moderate-income residents.

Habitat GSF CEO Maureen Sedonaen spoke with KPIX CBS San Francisco Bay Area about how our homeownership model works, while Mount Burdell homeowner Andie shared what stability has meant for her family.

Oh, you zoomed in? Awesome. You're on the team now.

Closing the Bay Area's affordable housing gap isn't a one-position job. Some people swing hammers. Some fund the lumber. Some talk to lawmakers. Some just want to know how a Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco home actually gets built. Every version of showing up counts, and we need all of it to bring homeownership within reach for far more families. Now that you know who you saw in the mirror, what do you say we put them to work?

Ezra Klein asked Maureen Sedonaen what sits on the other side of building . What happens after the construction, when it stops being a unit count on a spreadsheet?

Her answer was reciprocity. Owning a home isn’t just about a family putting down roots. It’s about what happens when they finally have the footing to give something back, to reinvest in the people and the block around them. That’s a benefit everybody shares.

It’s the kind of connection that makes a neighborhood thrive, and affordable homeownership is one of the clearest ways to rebuild it. Come help us make a better by getting involved at habitatgsf.org
