Miracle Messages is an award-winning nonprofit organization that helps people experiencing homelessness rebuild their social support systems and financial security, primarily through family reunifications, a phone buddy program, and basic income pilots. Miracle Messages offers a humane, highly effective way to help end homelessness: strengthen social supports and financial security, shatter stigma

s, and empower people everywhere to get involved. Our impact includes facilitating 1000 family reunifications for our unhoused neighbors, matching 350 unhoused neighbors with volunteer phone buddies, and distributing $50K in one of the first basic income pilots for unhoused individuals in the United States. Miracle Messages' global community of volunteers believes no one should go through homelessness alone.

We recently received an amazing gift from the artist Lucy Sokoloff at Cedars Fine Art Studio Cedars Life in San Anselmo, CA. Cedars offers award-winning day programs and residential services of nearly 200 adults with developmental disabilities. We piloted a virtual art program with our Miracle Friends, volunteers, and Cedar Life staff and participants. We are proud to partner with them and to receive this incredible artwork from Lucy. In the second half of 2027, they will be presenting a solo exhibition of Lucy's work and we can't wait to see more of what she creates. You can see more of her artwork in the photos following this one.

We are currently in need of volunteers for our Miracle Friends program. Here's what volunteers have said about working with us: "It's a lovely, positive community and very heartening to see that - despite everything going on in the world - there are still folks that are kind and compassionate." "I say hi to people I pass on the street now, especially our unhoused neighbors if they acknowledge me. I want them to know I see them, that they matter to me."

98% of our volunteers would recommend volunteering with us to a friend. Join our community today and you will make a difference in someone's life, including your own.

Let this sink in: In many parts of CA, you'd have to work 100+ hours a week at minimum wage to afford a modest 1BR apartment while meeting other basic needs.

In our latest issue brief, we spotlight the Thriving Community Fund, a statewide pilot designed to test the impact of combining direct cash with trust-based relationships delivered through community-based organizations. The fund provided a one-year basic income intervention to 110 individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability, offering $750 per month. Together, we demonstrated the power of collaboration while learning across different geographies, experiences of homelessness, and service sectors. We are grateful to be in this space of innovation & impact with organizations that identified the following priority populations and focus areas:

🌟 Families Forward (Orange County): homelessness prevention for families
🌟 WISEPlace (Orange County): women experiencing recent or current sheltered homelessness
🌟 Association Of Faith Communities (Santa Cruz County): individuals in safe parking programs with earned income
🌟 EAST OAKLAND COLLECTIVE (Alameda County): homelessness prevention focused on African American/Black men
🌟 Homeless Prenatal Program (San Francisco County): homelessness prevention for fathers and families.

“Homelessness is a lonely and isolating experience… and even the smallest act of love can be transformational.”

This powerful piece from The Denver Voice highlights something we see every day at Miracle Messages: connection is essential. Too often, solutions to homelessness focus only on housing or services. But as this article reminds us, isolation, stigma, and disconnection are at the heart of the experience. That’s where our work begins.

Through our services, we help people rebuild the relationships and support systems that make stability possible. Because when someone feels seen, heard, and cared for they are more likely to thrive. It can start small. A conversation. A call. A moment of presence.
But those moments add up and change lives.

🎉 Our 2025 Impact Report is here!

Last year, together, we reconnected 168 people with their families, built 352 friendships, provided over $1.18 million in direct support — and launched 8 new Chapters in communities across the country. Behind every number is a real person. A reunion. A friendship. A moment someone realized they weren't alone.

We put it all together in our 2025 Impact Report, and we'd love for you to take a look. It's a celebration of this community and everything we're building together. đź’›

Thank you to our partners at University of Southern California Homelessness Policy Research Institute for this feature of our study exploring what happens when people experiencing homelessness receive $750/month.

As one of the first randomized studies on , results showed it helped people meet essential needs needs, reduce stress, and regain stability: "One participant used this money to keep his car running – both for transportation to work and as the place where he slept at night. Another bought birthday and holiday presents for his relatives. One sent money to aging parents. Another donated to a charity because it restored a sense of contribution. Another paid down credit card debt that had been a source of stress."

This study is just the start of how we're exploring the impact of financial support paired with connection, community, and care. đź’™

03/30/2026

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has proposed a rule that would kick “mixed status” families - households with eligible and ineligible members (such as undocumented people) - out of public and subsidized housing. This would change decades of policy designed to keep families together and housed, by evicting undocumented household members, even though they pay full rent.

This is deeply harmful to families and will destroy many networks of connection and support that we know are so critical to well-being. We encourage our community to take action and urge HUD to withdraw the rule by submitting a comment and sharing in your network.
