The California Highway Patrol continues to make progress in the fight against organized retail crime.

From August 1st–9th, CHP’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force joined more than 100 law enforcement agencies nationwide for the National Organized Retail Crime Blitz, conducting coordinated enforcement operations at businesses, shopping centers, and retail stores across California.

The results:
• 97 suspects arrested, including 8 on felony charges
• More than 8,500 stolen items recovered
• Approximately $1.05 million in stolen merchandise recovered

These efforts build on last year’s success and reflect CHP’s continued commitment to holding organized retail theft suspects accountable and protecting California businesses and communities.

National Night Out 2026

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit your California Highway Patrol San Francisco Area personnel during the National Night Out festivities yesterday evening, August 4, 2026. Your CHP San Francisco Area team were out in force representing in Colma, Daly City, and three locations in San Francisco joining the local police, sheriff, fire, medics, and additional first responders, as well as all of our wonderful community members who came through to express their support.

It was a great evening connecting with our community, answering questions, showing off our equipment, and sharing more about the work we do to protect California and our own local communities.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to come out and spend the evening with us. Events like National Night Out help strengthen the partnerships between law enforcement and the communities we serve.

Thank you to our fellow public safety partners, with special thanks to Colma PD, Daly City PD, San Francisco PD Southern, Ingleside, and Park Stations, and everyone who helped make this year’s event a success. We all look forward to seeing you again next year!

CHP SAN FRANCISCO OFFICER HONORED AT SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS GAME

On Monday, July 27, we gathered with law enforcement agencies from across Northern California at the annual San Francisco Giants Law Enforcement Appreciation Night. This year, officers from multiple agencies were recognized for their incredible work and dedication as they strive to keep the Bay Area safe.

We were proud to honor Officer Tony Ortolani, a 20-year CHP veteran, for his exceptional service and outstanding accomplishments that earned him the California Highway Patrol's Top Performer Award for 125 DUI arrests in 2025. The award is a testament to his unwavering commitment to removing impaired drivers from our roadways and keeping the public safe. Despite having the ability to choose any shift, Officer Ortolani continues to volunteer for the graveyard shift, when the risk of impaired drivers is often at its highest.

On hand to join the Giants in honoring Officer Ortolani were the San Francisco Area office Commander, Captain Tim McCollister, Golden Gate Division Chief Steve Ramos, and Golden Gate Division Assistant Chief Kevin White. We proudly recognize Officer Ortolani for his professionalism, dedication, and continued commitment to public safety, and thank the San Francisco Giants for highlighting his incredible work.
