Larkin Street Youth Services provides housing, medical, social, and educational service.

Since 1984, Larkin Street Youth Services has reached over 75,000 young people, ages 12 to 24, through a range of services including outreach, shelter, housing, health, wellness, education and employment. As the largest non-profit provider of services for young people experiencing homelessness in San Francisco, Larkin Street’s scope and impact is incomparable: three out of four young people who complete programs at Larkin Street leave street life behind.

⚠️ 66% of young people who walk through our doors have experienced violence or trafficking. And the funding that helps keep them safe is on the chopping block.

Sherilyn, our CEO, is calling on you to take action. The CalOES Office of Emergency Services funding provides young people across California with immediate access to shelter, housing, and food—and right now, it’s not in either the Assembly or Senate budget plans.

For too many LGBTQ+ young people, homelessness begins with rejection—from family, from community, from the places that were supposed to feel like home.

Last year, 31% of the 2,093 young people we served identified as LGBTQ+, and 13% as transgender or gender nonconforming. We don't take that trust lightly.

At Larkin Street, Pride isn't just a month; it's a commitment. To showing up with affirming care. To building spaces where young people can exhale. To making sure every person who walks through our doors knows they are worthy of safety, stability, and joy. This June, we celebrate every young person who chose to keep going. We see you, and we are with you.

Young people in San Francisco deserve access to health care, and the Michael Baxter Larkin Street Clinic is here to provide it.

This clinic is open to all youth ages 12–24. You do not need to be connected to Larkin Street to come in. No insurance, no appointment, no referral needed. Walk in for physical health, mental health, or just needing somewhere to start. Our team includes doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, a medical assistant, and a behavioral health therapist—all in one place.

The more young people who walk through these doors, the stronger this resource becomes. Here's how to visit:

The budget is being decided right now. Make sure young people aren't left out of it.

The Governor's May Revise left out funding for programs that keep young people off the streets. Calling your senator takes five minutes, and it MATTERS.

Beginning in June, SNAP benefits will now require proof of employment from young people experiencing homelessness, many of whom are also navigating job applications, food insecurity, and just trying to survive on their own—that’s yet another barrier in an already difficult situation.

This year alone, more than 1,500 young people have walked through the doors of our drop-in center, already surpassing last year’s total by 8%. With new rapid rehousing and supportive housing programs now online, more young people are coming to us for safety, stability, and basic needs.

But getting a young person physically off the street is just the beginning. The reality is, we can only house 1 in 4 youth who come to us, and real stability takes more than just getting off the street for one night. It takes wraparound service, including support like SNAP benefits. A young person who hasn't eaten can't focus on a job interview, a housing application, or a counseling session.

That’s what we’re building, and we’re not letting up.

Your words could change a young person's life. Use them.

State lawmakers are making budget decisions this week that directly affect homeless youth in California. Public comment hearings are one of the most meaningful ways to make sure young people aren't forgotten in that conversation. You don't need to be an expert—you just need to show up.

And a special thank you to Assemblymember Catherine Stefani, Senator Scott Wiener, and Assemblymember Matt Haney for championing the programs that keep young people housed and for fighting to make sure they aren't left out of this budget.
