A fabulous afternoon of regional collaboration and hometown hospitality at the 2026 San Gabriel Valley Legislative Networking Reception, hosted right here in San Gabriel at the beautiful Grapevine Arbor. It was wonderful to connect with colleagues and partners from across the San Gabriel Valley while hearing legislative updates from regional leaders on issues impacting our communities.

For many guests, it was their first visit to Grapevine Arbor & Mission District, so of course I had to put on my unofficial San Gabriel tourism ambassador hat and encourage them to come back to explore our historic landmarks and incredible dining scene. Our city has a way of turning first-time visitors into repeat guests.

Thank you to the co-hosts, the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership (SGVEP), San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments and San Gabriel Valley Public Affairs Network, for organizing this informative gathering.

Applications are now open for Youth Service America’s (YSA) We Serve to Remember 9/11Day of Service Grants. Organizations, schools, and youth changemakers ages 5–25 are eligible to apply for a $1,000 grant to support service projects taking place on or around September 11, 2026. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Learn more and apply: www.ysa.org/campaigns/911day/

Personal Note: On September 11, one of the victims was my husband's sister, Dora Marie Menchaca. She was aboard Flight 77, traveling home after helping advance a treatment for prostate cancer. YSA grants honor her legacy, the memory of all those lost that fateful day, and the spirit of service and unity that emerged in its aftermath.

Proud to represent both San Gabriel and the Trojan Family. ✌️❤️💛

Delighted to attend a special reception welcoming the new USC President, Beong-Soo Kim. The event brought together fellow elected officials and civic leaders from across the region, including many from the San Gabriel Valley. Much gratitude to TELACU, the Lizárraga Family, and former State Senator Martha Escutia for hosting this memorable gathering that provided an opportunity to engage with President Kim.

As a proud USC alumna, it was heartwarming to see President Kim take the time to engage with the community beyond the campus boundaries. His commitment to listening, building relationships, and understanding Southern California’s diverse communities is truly inspiring.

Wishing President Kim great success as he leads USC into its next chapter. Fight On! ✌️

The San Gabriel Valley Regional Housing Trust (SGVRHT) recently approved $24.9 million in construction funding for four critical affordable housing projects across the region, including one in the City of San Gabriel.

The project, located at 405 S. Del Mar Avenue, received a $7.4 million funding commitment to help construct 73 affordable housing units dedicated to senior residents.

SGVRHT works to leverage local, state, and federal resources to expand housing opportunities and supportive services for low-income and unhoused residents throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

🎓📚 Ten outstanding high school seniors were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship through the generous efforts of the Kiwanis Club of San Gabriel. As the 2026 Kiwanis Scholarship Co-Chair, I was proud to help support this program and celebrate these remarkable students from public and private high schools.

The celebration concluded with a heartwarming dinner at the Grapevine Arbor, where each recipient was recognized alongside their family and a principal or counselor from their high school as honored guests. Congratulations to these outstanding seniors as they continue their journey onward and upward!

We also had the privilege of presenting the Distinguished Service Award to two exceptional Kiwanians, Cheri Cabot and Cynthia Talavera, in recognition of their leadership, dedication, and service to both Kiwanis and the community. We thank them for their unwavering commitment to making a positive difference.

As AAPI Heritage Month is coming to a close, I would like to recognize Khin Fong, the first Asian American woman to serve as Postmaster of the San Gabriel Post Office.

At a recent San Gabriel Kiwanis meeting, her presentation highlighted the dedication and teamwork that keep this essential service running smoothly every day. Thank you, Postmaster Fong, for your leadership and service to the San Gabriel community.
