We’re one step closer to making the San Gabriel Veterans Memorial a reality!!

The City Council has approved the conceptual design and location for the future Veterans Memorial at Plaza Park, creating a place where our community can honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans for generations to come.

Thank you to the San Gabriel Veterans' Memorial Coalition, City staff, DVDCreative, our commissions, and everyone who helped shape this vision.

It was great joining Thomas Wong and other friends from across the SGV to celebrate Denise and her tireless commitment to public service.

One of the best parts of the afternoon was catching up with Associated Students of PCC leaders Alan Alexander and Leah Castañeda, along with Paul Medina, the former student member of the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and the driving force behind communitycolleges360

Community leadership is strongest when experienced public servants take time to provide opportunities and mentor the next generation.

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, we had the privilege of celebrating several important milestones within both the San Gabriel Police Department and the San Gabriel Fire Department. Having our own Police and Fire Departments is something our community truly values, and it is a distinction that not every city can claim.

Congratulations to newly promoted Captain Gosserand, Lieutenant Sam, and Sergeant Fuentes on their well-deserved promotions. We also proudly welcomed Officer Young as the newest member of the San Gabriel Police Department. Their leadership, dedication, and commitment to public service strengthen our city every day.

We also celebrated an important milestone for the San Gabriel Fire Department as five of our newest firefighters officially completed their probationary year. After completing extensive training and demonstrating an outstanding commitment to service, they have officially joined the ranks of the San Gabriel Fire Department.

Congratulations to all of these outstanding public safety professionals. Thank you for your dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to protecting and serving.

I was pleased to attend the API Caucus reception during the AAPI Lead Summit honoring U.S. Congressman Ted Lieu as the 2026 Vincent Chin Civil Rights Champion. Congressman Lieu was recognized for his leadership in confronting anti-Asian hate, racial profiling, and discrimination.

I learned about this event at the NALEO Conference and was glad to attend. It was inspiring to see leaders from both communities come together to honor the past, celebrate today’s champions, and reaffirm our shared commitment to building a more inclusive and united future.
