SERVING THE MOST VULNERABLE

At any given time, there are about 1,000 children in the Santa Clara County foster care system. Every one of these children has experienced trauma in the form of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. Every one of these children should have the opportunity to overcome the effects of trauma and thrive. We serve foster children in Silicon Valley by:

*operating the Court App

ointed Special Advocate (CASA) program in Santa Clara County;
*influencing local policies and decisions that affect the children we serve;
*building enduring community partnerships to broaden and strengthen our impact. ADVOCATES MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We recruit, train and support CASA Volunteers to ensure every foster child in the Santa Clara County foster care system has a mentor and advocate to help them navigate the system and a voice reporting directly to the Court. Studies show foster children with a CASA Volunteer receive more educational and health services; are more likely to find a safe, permanent home; perform better in school; and spend less time in foster care that children without one. This past Saturday, our youth and their CASA Volunteers enjoyed an unforgettable day at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo! We are incredibly grateful to the Happy Hollow Foundation for making experiences like this possible over the past two years.

Opportunities like these do more than create fun memories. They help foster youth build supportive relationships, stay active, connect with nature, and experience moments of joy and mindfulness that contribute to their overall well-being

This month, Child Advocates is spotlighting CASA Payje for her commitment to going above and beyond for our foster youth.

With love to give and an understanding of the importance of giving back to your community, Payje decided to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to help ensure that foster children in Silicon Valley have a trusted adult they can depend on.

During her visit, we had the opportunity to discuss the needs of foster youth in Santa Clara County and share how we are LIFTING UP young people through one-on-one advocacy, essential life skills development, and enriching experiences that help them thrive.

"Everyone needs a Sandy!" - Xavier (former Non-Minor Dependent)

That's what Xavier shared at his court dismissal after nearly 10 years with his CASA, Sandy.

Over the years, Sandy SHOWED UP for Xavier in countless ways. She encouraged his interests, helped him set goals, celebrated his achievements and stood by his side through life's challenges. With her support, Xavier graduated high school, completed an internship and secured a job, all important steps toward independence.

Every young person deserves someone in their corner who believes in them, encourages them and helps them see what's possible.

On Sunday, May 17, more than 430 runners came together at Martial Cottle Park for the 10th Annual Foster5K + Kids Dash, raising over $70,000 to support foster youth served by Child Advocates of Silicon Valley.
