Hope Services More than 70 years ago, a group of parents of children with special needs felt their kids deserved the same opportunities as everyone else.

Among their earliest achievements was opening a preschool for these children, which later grew to be Hope.

Families of children with developmental differences can often feel isolated or uncertain about how to find and connect with others who truly understand their experiences. Friends and acquaintances may not always recognize the unique supports and challenges that come with raising a child with special needs. But through shared understanding, common experiences, and their children’s love of play and connection, several families served by Children and Family Services (CFS) have formed meaningful and lasting bonds. πŸ’™

Priscilla joined Hope's Mental Health department as an intern in 2024 and, just weeks after graduating from Cal State East Bay, stepped into a full-time Clinician role. Her path into the field was shaped by personal experience, a passion for marriage and family therapy, and a commitment to meeting clients where they are.

In our full feature, Priscilla shares what her internship days looked like, the moment she met her very first client, and why she chose to stay at Hope after graduation. She also has a word of advice for anyone considering an internship here: https://loom.ly/13Y_F3A

The world works better with us! πŸ’™

At Hope Services, we envision a world where every person experiences dignity, well-being, and belonging within a supportive and inclusive community. A world where differences are celebrated, people with disabilities are valued for who they are and the contributions they make, and everyone has the opportunity, resources, and support they need to thrive.

This July, Hope Services proudly recognizes Disability Pride Month, a time to celebrate disability identity, culture, community, and the contributions of people with disabilities. It is also an opportunity to honor the advocates and leaders who have advanced disability rights and to recommit ourselves to building a more accessible and inclusive future.

This year’s theme, β€œThe World Works Better With Us,” reflects a belief that has been at the heart of Hope Services for 74 years: people with disabilities are essential members of our communities, and our schools, workplaces, neighborhoods, and society are stronger when everyone has the opportunity to participate, contribute, lead, and belong.

🌈 Celebrating Pride Month with Our Community

Hope participants and staff came together this month to celebrate Pride in style with fun giveaways, a photo booth, dancing, and music filling both of our sites with energy and joy.

One moment that stuck with us: a participant shared what Pride means to him: "respecting people's choices and being free." πŸ’™ Thank you to our incredible staff for bringing these celebrations to life! πŸŽ‰
