It was also the strongest to strike Colombia since a magnitude 8.0 earthquake was recorded on July 31, 1970. https://bit.ly/45iXz2M

Public Safety Alert: Several of the palm trees in the Circle of Palms in Downtown San José were recently found to be dead or dying. City crews are barricading the area to keep the public safe. Please avoid the designated hazard area and listen to city crews and contractors if asked to move. The City is responding to this potentially dangerous situation as quickly as possible, while keeping the public away from the potentially unstable trees.

To address ongoing risk to the public, the trees will be removed on an emergency basis. The City will continue to keep the public updated through the tree removal process. Events previously scheduled to take place in the Circle of Palms are being moved to new venues.

Back-to-school season is here! We know school drop-offs, especially at the beginning of the year, can be chaotic and filled with traffic.

To remind everyone that students are back in school, DOT has set up electronic message boards close to school zones. These boards contain short messages, like “Students back in school” and “Slow down,” in English and Spanish. You can find these message boards at locations near schools throughout the month of August.

We also suggest watching this short video on practicing traffic safety in a school zone: bit.ly/bts-safety-reel.
