Today, two of our C Shift firefighters (Firefighters A. Foster and G. Suarez) took a moment to lend a helping hand to an elderly resident using a walker, assisting her with carrying groceries and water packs into her home.

While we stand ready to respond to emergencies at a moment’s notice, it’s moments like these that remind us what service is truly about—being there for our community whenever we’re needed, big or small.

Proud to serve, always ready to help.

Huge shoutout to Commissioner Mario Cantu for the morning fuel! 🌮🔥

We want to extend a massive thank you to the Commissioner for treating the Fire Department staff to breakfast tacos from a local favorite, El 85 Taco Lounge. It’s gestures like these that make our San Juan community special.

We truly appreciate your support and for taking care of our first responders!

🚨 INCLEMENT WEATHER SAFETY REMINDER 🚨

Cold temperatures are moving in, and with them comes an increased risk of home fires and carbon monoxide emergencies.

Please keep these safety tips in mind as you try to stay warm:

🔥 Heater Safety
• Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn
• Never leave heaters unattended or on while sleeping
• Plug heaters directly into the wall — no extension cords
• Turn heaters off before leaving home

☠️ Carbon Monoxide (CO) Safety
• Never use ovens, grills, or generators inside the home
• Do not run vehicles in garages, even with the door open
• Make sure CO detectors are working on every level of your home
• If a CO alarm sounds, get outside immediately and call 911

🔌 Electrical Safety
• Avoid overloading outlets with heaters and appliances
• Check cords for damage or fraying
• Use UL-listed heating devices only

🧥 Stay Warm — Stay Safe
• Wear layers instead of relying only on heaters
• Keep doors closed to retain heat
• Check on elderly neighbors, family, and anyone without heat

❄️ Sudden cold weather leads to a rise in preventable fires.
One simple precaution can save a life.

The San Juan Fire Department had the honor of participating in the 2026 RGV Fire Safety Expo alongside fellow Rio Grande Valley fire departments to promote fire safety and prevention throughout the community. San Juan Fire Department utilized its fire safety trailer to provide citizens with hands-on education, including kitchen fire safety and a first-hand experience demonstrating what to do—and what to avoid—when safely exiting a home under fire conditions.
