It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Retired Police K9 Waylon, who left us on March 11, 2025. Waylon served proudly alongside his handler, Retired Officer Bacon, from 2016 to 2019.
Throughout his career, Waylon played an essential role in locating violent criminals, discovering illegal drugs, and recovering critical evidence at crime scenes. His sharp instincts and tireless work ethic made him an invaluable asset in the fight against crime.
Waylon and Officer Bacon also showcased their exceptional teamwork in various Police K9 competitions. Together, they earned numerous awards for obedience, agility, searching, and narcotics detection. Their bond and expertise were evident as they competed against some of the finest K9 teams in the state, consistently giving their best in every competition.
After retiring, Waylon enjoyed a peaceful life on a ranch with Officer Bacon, his family, and other animals. This well-deserved chapter allowed him to live out his days surrounded by love and care.
Waylon will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of working with him, especially by his handler, Officer Bacon, and the entire law enforcement community. His loyalty, bravery, and dedication will never be forgotten. He will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew him.
Rest in peace, K9 Waylon. You will always be remembered and missed.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of retired police K-9 Rohan. On Wednesday March 12, 2025 at 11:45 am, Rohan crossed the rainbow bridge and was in the comfort of his own home and surrounded by his closest family. Rohan served our department from 2012-2019 and retired on his 8th birthday on September 26, 2019.

Throughout his career, Rohan played an instrumental role in finding and apprehending violent criminals, locating illegal drugs, and locating evidence at crime scenes. He was one of the two first dogs in our department to start the SKIDDS program which integrated the SWAT and K-9 teams for high risk deployments. Rohan was deployed well over 500 times during his years of service and helped locate and apprehend dozens of violent criminals.

Rohan and Sgt. Mally also competed in dozens of police K-9 competitions during their years together and consistently took top honors especially in agility, scenarios, and searching for concealed suspects. In 2017, Rohan finished number one overall in the Western States Police Canine Association’s K-9 trials season. He also finished second place overall in the 2018 and 2019 seasons and took Top Dog in 2019 on the weekend of his retirement.

After retiring, Rohan enjoyed his time at home with his family and traveling with them. He would also occasionally visit his other home which was SLPD.
Rohan will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of working with and knowing him and he will never be forgotten.

With heavy hearts, we want to share with all of our supporters that retired K-9 Conan crossed over the rainbow bridge and passed away Sunday, May 29 at home with his family. Conan was 13 years old and served our department from 2012 to 2018. He started his career in 2012 with retired Officer Jason Bryan and after his medical retirement, retired Officer Rich Van D**e took over as Conan’s handler. For those of us that were lucky enough to know Conan and work with him know how hard of a worker he was when it was time to work and how much of a lovable companion he could be while not working. With his unique body shape, he was often referred to as the keg on legs because of his short legs and thick upper body! He was one of the first two dogs to be certified for our department for the SWAT/SKIDDS program and was a part of our SWAT team for almost 6 years. During his career, he kept our officers and community members safe by locating suspects who did not want to be found as well as narcotic detection where he was responsible for well over $250,000 worth of assets seizure money. Our hearts and thoughts are with Conan‘s family and you will never be forgotten. Thank you for your years of service at work and thank you for keeping your family company at home during your retired life. Rest in paradise Conan and thank you for keeping all of us safe. 🐾🐾🐾💔💔💔

Retired K-9 Rohan competed this past Saturday at the Stanislaus County Sheriff K-9 trials in the retired class. He’s been retired for 2 1/2 years and he may not move as fast as he used to, but he definitely still remembers how to do the job! Please congratulate him for taking first place in the class A retired category at this year‘s trials. Looking forward to seeing him again next month at the San Joaquin County K-9 trails.
