SOS Meals on Wheels celebrates 60 years of service! For six remarkable decades, we have stood as a lifeline for our older neighbors, delivering far more than nutritious meals. With every visit, we bring connection, compassion, and the reassurance that our community cares.

Adults aged 60 and older lose billions of dollars to fraud annually, with reported losses reaching approximately $2.4 billion in recent Federal Trade Commission data and surging even higher in FBI tracking. Today, we’re joining government agencies and organizations across the country to raise awareness about imposter scams.

If a senior in your life is vulnerable, you can help by making them aware of fraudulent practices. If someone says they’re from the government and tells them to move their money or put it in a federal locker, that’s an imposter scam. No one from the government will ever tell a citizen that their money isn’t safe or that they must move it to “protect it.” Only a scammer will. ejcc.acl.gov/imposters

New York Fed data shows U.S. food insecurity has more than doubled since 2020 to 10% of households, creating a "K-shaped" economic crisis that disproportionately threatens older adults on fixed incomes with rising costs. As seniors cannot increase income to match inflation, many are forced to drain savings, cut medications, or skip meals, necessitating urgent community action to support local senior nutrition programs and meal delivery. We are so grateful for the Rotary Club of San Leandro and its many years of partnership with SOS Meals on Wheels! For more than a decade, San Leandro Rotarians have shown up for their older neighbors, volunteering in our kitchens, delivering meals, and granting us funds that help us sustain our programs.

Last week, we were proud to be counted among the eleven local nonprofits receiving a total of $30,000 in community grants. We are also excited to join the club in celebrating its 100th year. In honor of this tremendous milestone, San Leandro Rotarians recently made a major gift of $100,000 to the San Leandro Parks and Recreation Department to help build a fitness court at Marina Park!
