That kind of security is what we want for the older adults in our own lives, isn’t it?

Thanks to people like you, we can give nutrition and a friendly face to those who don’t have the support or funds for the meals and one-on-one connections that help keep physical and mental decline at bay. People like Mrs. Dennis, age 93.

“Meals on Wheels started one year almost to the day after my husband passed away. I was living alone. My daughter would come on the weekends, and my sons come whenever I need them, but they can’t be here every day,” Mrs. Dennis shared.

Your support fosters the independence and dignity of older adults by reducing food insecurity and isolation with nutritious meals, friendly visits, and connections to critical support services.

If you’d lived for 8 decades surrounded by friends, family, and church, then found yourself facing your days alone … How glad would you be to see a friendly face and a nutritious meal at your door?

Mrs. Dennis always thought of herself as an independent woman … and still can, at 93, thanks to the generous supporters of SOS Meals on Wheels.

Generous neighbors just like you make sure she eats nutritious meals to protect against malnutrition and food insecurity, two dangers that plague older adults.

Will you please join us this year in keeping an eye on the health and well-being of older adults like Mrs. Dennis by supporting SOS Meals on Wheels? We’re visiting people in and around where you live, so your generosity helps those close to home.

Help us give Mrs. Dennis a happy, healthy holiday season and 2024! Please give today at sosmow.org/beafriend.

As Giving Tuesday arrives, we are reminded of the incredible impact of your ongoing support in ensuring that older adults in our community continue to age safely and independently in their homes. The support of our community has been instrumental in bringing nutritious meals and wellness checks to over 3,000 older adults a year.

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to once again be a part of our mission and donate today at sosmow.org/beafriend.

Last weekend, we hosted our Inaugural Fall BBQ Fundraiser, and it turned out to be a remarkable success. It was a special event for us, as it marked our first fundraising event in 4 years. The joy of being able to connect with our community once again was immeasurable. Seeing familiar faces and meeting new friends who share our commitment to the mission of keeping seniors healthy and happy was truly heartwarming. We are deeply grateful to all who attended and helped make this event such a success.

As of Monday, September 18th, SOS Meals on Wheels assumed responsibility for the Meals on Wheels program serving Fremont, Newark, and Union City, previously serviced by LIFE ElderCare. Our Board, leadership, and staff are honored and excited to take over the work that will enable us to begin and develop relationships with the older South County residents who depend on the Meals on Wheels service, the volunteers who make it possible, and the community members and leaders who will help us sustain and grow the program in the years to come. As a caregiver, you make sure your loved ones stay healthy and safe. Help your loved ones use their Medi-Cal dental benefits by scheduling regular dental check-ups. During a visit, dentists will check for and help prevent dental problems such as tooth decay and gum disease.
Medi-Cal members ages 21 and older are covered for one dental check-up a year.
For more information about your loved one’s Medi-Cal dental coverage, visit SmileCalifornia.org/Caregivers.
