We are so grateful for the Rotary Club of San Leandro and its many years of partnership with SOS Meals on Wheels! For more than a decade, San Leandro Rotarians have shown up for their older neighbors, volunteering in our kitchens, delivering meals, and granting us funds that help us sustain our programs.

Last week, we were proud to be counted among the eleven local nonprofits receiving a total of $30,000 in community grants. We are also excited to join the club in celebrating its 100th year. In honor of this tremendous milestone, San Leandro Rotarians recently made a major gift of $100,000 to the San Leandro Parks and Recreation Department to help build a fitness court at Marina Park!

In January, we had the absolute pleasure of paying a special visit to our Hayward client, Dietrich, who has received our service since 2019. Born in Austria, he emigrated to the US in 1968 to work for the San Francisco Opera. At the age of 96, he still sits at his piano daily.

Dietrich, along with other talented musicians, will be performing at the We Are Oakland Concert. Join us for the 10th Annual We Are Oakland Concert tomorrow, May 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church. All funds raised will benefit SOS Meals on Wheels.

The Maestro is back! Born in Austria, Dietrich emigrated the US in 1968 as the Chorus Director of the San Francisco Opera. At the age of 96, he still sits at his piano daily and provides voice lessons to students online and at his home. He also plays piano during weekly services at a local church and runs a publishing business that produces comprehensive coaching CDs, translations and music books for classical singers and choruses. He has been receiving Meals on Wheels since 2019 which have enabled him to continue to live at home to play the piano and teach.

This will be Dietrich’s 5th WE ARE OAKLAND performance! Don’t miss him and all of the amazing artists at our concert on Friday, May 8 at 7pm.

All proceeds will benefit SOS Meals on Wheels and the important work they do in our community.
