Affordable housing impacts more than the people who live in it. When communities do not have enough housing available at affordable price points, the effects ripple outward. Families face increasing housing costs, employers struggle to attract and retain workers, and communities face challenges supporting a stable local workforce. Increasing the supply of affordable housing helps strengthen local economies, support employers, and create opportunities for people to live and work in the communities they serve. That is why the SLO County Housing Trust Fund works to provide financing that helps bring affordable housing projects to life throughout our region.

Michael was recognized for his long-standing commitment to affordable housing and his leadership in helping move housing projects forward throughout San Luis Obispo County. Through decades of service, collaboration, and dedication, he has helped create opportunities for individuals and families to access safe, stable housing. The inaugural Strong Foundation Awards brought together housing professionals, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, financial institutions, developers, community leaders, and supporters to celebrate the partnerships helping increase the supply of affordable housing in SLO County.

We were honored to recognize two extraordinary leaders whose contributions have helped shape housing opportunities throughout our region.

🏆 Strong Foundation Award
Michael Burke, Director of Construction & Development at HASLO, was recognized for nearly two decades of leadership advancing affordable housing across San Luis Obispo County.

🏆 Lifetime Achievement Award
Jerry Rioux, retired founding CEO of the SLO County Housing Trust Fund, was honored for his vision, advocacy, and foundational role in establishing the Housing Trust Fund and shaping its long-term impact.

Both recipients received Certificates of Recognition from the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors, Assemblymember Dawn Addis, and State Senator John Laird.

Congratulations to Michael and Jerry, and thank you to everyone who joined us for this special evening. Together, we continue working toward a shared mission: increasing the supply of affordable housing in SLO County.

Tonight is the inaugural Strong Foundation Awards presented by the SLO County Housing Trust Fund. We look forward to gathering with community leaders, housing partners, sponsors, and supporters to celebrate the individuals and organizations helping move affordable housing forward in SLO County.
We might get some rain tomorrow, but that won't stop us from celebrating the Affordable Housing Champions in our community.

We might get some rain tomorrow, but that won't stop us from celebrating the Affordable Housing Champions in our community.

To be on the safe side, the Strong Foundation Awards will be inside the Rod & Hammer Event Center.

Everything will proceed as planned, just with a roof over our heads.
