SEXUAL OFFENSE
CASE 2026-21233

On August 6th, 2026, the San Luis Police Department started an investigation of a sexual offense involving a San Luis High School teacher and a student. The investigation was initiated following a report made by San Luis High School personnel. During the course of the investigation, SLPD detectives who took over the case which involved a 17-year-old San Luis High School student. Search warrants were executed and the investigation led to the arrest of 27-year-old Genesis Alvarado for several sexual offenses. On August 7th , 2026, Genesis was booked into the Yuma County Jail where he remains in custody on multiple felony offenses.

The San Luis Police Department encourages anyone with any information about this case or other possible related incidents to call the San Luis Police Department at (928) 341-2420 or 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous.

Back to School Reminder!

With school back in session for many of our students, the San Luis Police Department would like to remind everyone that student safety is in everyone’s hands.

Whether you’re driving through a school zone, dropping off your child, or walking to class, a few simple precautions can help keep everyone safe. Take a moment to review the safety tips in the graphic below and help us make this a safe and successful school year for all.

The San Luis Police Department is asking for help from the community or anyone who can help identify vehicle or possible driver for the shown vehicle. The vehicle is linked to a criminal traffic offenses including reckless driving and exhibition of speed. The incident occurred on July 19th at approximately 1:10 am at the intersection of San Luis Ln. and 10th Ave.

The City of San Luis, in partnership with the Humane Society of Yuma, is offering FREE spay and neuter services for City of San Luis, AZ, residents only.

Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Households may register up to 2 pets.

The temperatures are climbing this weekend, let’s make safety a priority!

With even hotter weather expected across our area this weekend, we want to remind everyone to take a few extra precautions while enjoying the outdoors. Whether you’re cooling off at the pool, spending time with family, or working outside, a little preparation can go a long way.

Here are a few important reminders:
-Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
-Never leave children unattended in or around water,even for a moment.
-Designate a distraction-free Water Watcher whenever children are swimming.
-Make sure pools are protected with secure barriers, self-closing gates, and alarms.
-Learn CPR, it could save a life.
-Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and seek medical attention immediately if someone is showing symptoms.

A few simple precautions can make all the difference and help prevent avoidable tragedies.

The San Luis Police Department encourages everyone to look out for one another, especially children, older adults, and anyone spending extended time outdoors.
