A look back at our August Chairman’s Dinner at Coastal Roots Farm 🌿

North County leaders came together for an evening of conversation, connection and updates from across Encinitas.

We heard from Adam Schwerner, President & CEO of San Diego Botanic Garden, as well as the City of Encinitas, which shared updates on plans and progress underway in the city.

Celebrating our 2025 Devvies winners 🏆

Last year’s Excellence in North County Economic Development Awards recognized Trudy Armstrong, Fox Point Farms, 222 North City, the City of Escondido and Kimley-Horn’s Grand Avenue Vision Project Phase 2, the Vista Business Hub, Dr. Bronner’s, MiraCosta College and Oceanside Unified School District, Ionis Pharmaceuticals, and North County Steward Award recipient John Resnick.

Their work reflects the projects, partnerships, businesses and leaders helping North County grow and prosper.

Thank you to MiraCosta College for hosting SDNEDC’s August Board Meeting!

We were excited to welcome Dr. Lennor Johnson, MiraCosta College’s new President, and hear from him as he begins this new chapter at the college.

We also enjoyed a New Member Spotlight from Wendy Hoier of Dempsey Construction, an update on our 2026 Leadership Exchange, and a tour of the beautiful MiraCosta campus.

A great afternoon of learning, connection and conversation with leaders from across North County.

At Cherry Creek Innovation Campus, students from across the district can access specialized programs, shared facilities, industry-grade equipment, and employer-connected learning.

Our Leadership Exchange visit left us with an important question for North County:

What could become possible if schools, colleges, workforce partners, and employers worked together to expand opportunities for students?

Leadership Exchange Fridays

This week, we’re highlighting Belmar in Lakewood, Colorado, where a former shopping mall was transformed into a mixed-use downtown with housing, businesses, walkable streets, and public gathering spaces.

Belmar shows how long-term vision and collaboration can turn an aging commercial property into a stronger community destination.
