Texas hunting and fishing licenses are on sale AUGUST 15 for the 2026-27 season. Licenses can be purchased through the official TPWD website, or in-person at retail locations throughout Texas or certain TPWD offices. Purchasing hunting and fishing licenses directly funds conservation efforts and recreational opportunities. Fish stocking, wildlife management, habitat restoration, public hunting leases, and river access sites are just some of the many projects made possible by license sales. https://tpwd.texas.gov/newsmedia/releases/?req=20260813b

LATEST UPDATE 08/06/26: Grant Burroughs is looking into applying for a state (TPWD) and world record (IGFA) for a Guadalupe bass x largemouth bass hybrid. We'll keep you posted. UPDATE: Here's the result of the genetic analysis of Grant Burroughs' fish by our Inland Fisheries geneticist "Grant Burroughs fish was evaluated in triplicate. All replicates returned a result of an F1-hybrid (Guadalupe Bass x Largemouth Bass-complex)." A great looking fish nevertheless. Thanks to Grant for supplying the fish scales for genetic analysis without which the correct ID could not have been made with 100% confidence when the stakes were so high, knowing that Guads can hybridize and grow big. ORIGINAL POST: What do you think? Guadalupe bass, hybrid, largemouth bass? It was 4.46 pounds, from Lake Austin. If it's a pure Guadalupe bass, it would be the new State record and potential world record. That means it has to be genetically tested for purity. The result will be out soon.

Let's be careful out there.

Storms continue to bring threats of flash flooding to large areas of the state, stretching across West, Central, South, and East Texas.

Keep tabs on your local forecast, ensure you have multiple ways to receive critical information, and keep emergency supplies nearby.

Congratulations to James Peterson for catching the pending waterbody record hybrid tilapia from the Comal River. It weighed 3.14 pounds and was 16 inches long. He caught it fly fishing with a "Backstabber" carp fly. Since it is a non-native fish, it was not released.

The district fisheries office, in partnership with the Lake Buchanan Conservation Corporation, recently completed a fish habitat enhancement project on Lake Buchanan - refurbishing 20 brush pile fish attractor locations across the reservoir.

Each site is marked with a buoy to help anglers easily locate these structures, which provide important habitat for sportfish.

You can find the coordinates and locations of all attractors on our interactive map here: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/2bc3b75711b7496fac31455dddb0d060
